LLM Authority Index Research | High-Stakes Consumer Decisions | Insurance | Gemini | July-September 2026
Reddit lost substantial direct citation visibility in Gemini across high-stakes insurance questions during the third quarter of 2026, but it did not disappear from the platform.
On the balanced set of nine insurance verticals measured in both July and September 2026, Reddit's share of visible Gemini citation events fell from 3.15% to 1.39%, a 56.1% relative decline. The percentage of eligible Gemini responses containing at least one Reddit citation fell from 4.38% to 1.75%, a 60.1% relative decline.
A stricter matched-prompt test points in the same direction. Across 169 exact prompt-plus-Gemini scenarios observed in both endpoint months, 9 scenarios lost Reddit, 3 gained Reddit, 0 retained Reddit and 157 cited Reddit in neither month.
Matched Reddit response coverage therefore fell from 5.33% to 1.78%, a 66.7% relative decline.
The matched loss-to-gain ratio is 3.0 to 1. The exact two-sided McNemar test for the 12 discordant pairs is approximately p = 0.146. That does not cross a conventional 0.05 significance threshold, so the matched result should be interpreted as directionally consistent with the larger aggregate decline rather than as a standalone statistically significant result.
The broader three-month Gemini insurance source study still shows that Reddit mattered during the quarter. Across 1,705 eligible Gemini insurance responses, Reddit was cited in 46 responses, or 2.70%, and generated 48 of 2,565 public-facing citation events, approximately 1.87% of the cleaned citation pool.
Reddit ranked #7 overall across the full three-month Gemini insurance source market. Its monthly position moved from #4 in July to #12 in August and #19 in September.
That combination matters. Reddit remained a Top 10 Gemini insurance source across the pooled quarter even while its endpoint visibility fell by more than half.
Important: This study measures visible citations in a defined high-stakes insurance prompt panel. It does not measure hidden model training data, private retrieval signals or recommendation causality. A visible citation does not prove that Reddit caused an insurer, broker, product or publisher to be mentioned or recommended.

Answer Capsule
Did Reddit lose citation visibility in Gemini for high-stakes insurance decisions from July to September 2026? Yes. On the balanced nine-vertical insurance panel, Reddit's Gemini citation-event share fell 56.1%, from 3.15% to 1.39%, while response citation coverage fell 60.1%, from 4.38% to 1.75%. In the strict matched test, 9 of 169 scenarios lost Reddit while 3 gained it, reducing matched coverage from 5.33% to 1.78%. Reddit still ranked #7 across the full three-month Gemini insurance source market, but its monthly rank fell from #4 in July to #19 in September.
Key Findings

- Reddit generated 48 of 2,565 public-facing citation events, approximately 1.87%.
- Reddit ranked #7 overall across the three-month Gemini insurance source market.
- Reddit's monthly rank moved #4 in July, #12 in August and #19 in September.
- Reddit appeared across 9 of the 12 insurance source labels in the three-month Gemini source ranking.
- The Gemini insurance source market contained 404 registrable cited domains and 2,479 domain-response appearances.
- 124 myactivity.google.com entries were excluded from the public publisher ranking.
- The full insurance family contains 12 source labels, while the balanced July-to-September endpoint uses 9 because Long-Term Care Insurance, Renters Insurance and Vision Insurance were not present in the July source corpus.
- Gemini's insurance Reddit decline was materially steeper than the declines measured on Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, but less severe than Perplexity's 100% endpoint decline.
- Broad all-topic Gemini studies can still rank Reddit as a leading source while this narrower insurance panel shows a substantial category-specific decline.

Questions This Study Answers
- Did Reddit's direct citation role in Gemini weaken for high-stakes insurance decisions?
- Does the decline persist when the same prompts are compared at both endpoints?
- How can Reddit rank highly in broad Gemini research while declining materially in a narrower insurance panel?
Why This Research Belongs in Daily AI Search Marketing Decisions
Article 59 isolates one source, Reddit, inside one platform, Gemini, and one commercial decision family, Insurance. Its practical value comes from separating aggregate deterioration from the strength of the strict matched evidence.
- Where did Reddit rank across the full three-month Gemini Insurance source market?
- How much did balanced endpoint visibility decline?
- Did the same-prompt panel provide independently conclusive evidence of decline?
Across the three-month Gemini Insurance source study, Reddit ranked #7 overall at 2.70% response citation coverage. Its monthly position moved #4 in July, #12 in August and #19 in September.
The balanced nine-vertical endpoint moved sharply lower. Reddit citation-event share fell from 3.15% to 1.39%, down 56.1%, while response citation coverage fell from 4.38% to 1.75%, down 60.1%.
The strict matched panel moves in the same direction but is less conclusive statistically. Across 169 exact prompt-plus-Gemini scenarios, Reddit produced 9 losses, 3 gains, 0 persistent citations and 157 neither-month scenarios. Matched coverage fell from 5.33% to 1.78%, down 66.7%, but the exact two-sided McNemar result is approximately p = 0.146.
That distinction matters commercially. The strongest defensible conclusion is that Gemini Insurance Reddit visibility declined materially in the aggregate, while the same-prompt matched subset is directionally consistent but not independently statistically significant at the conventional 0.05 threshold.
For publishers, that means a Top 10 quarterly rank should not be presented as proof of stable current visibility. For carriers, brokers, comparison sites and CMOs, it means large percentage changes from modest raw counts should be monitored with both aggregate and matched measures.
The surrounding Gemini Insurance source market is concentrated but only moderately persistent. Its Top 100 account for 79.9% of domain-response appearances, and the Top 10 account for 32.9%, yet only 53 domains remained in all three monthly Top 100s and median monthly Top 100 Jaccard similarity was 49.3%.
Category specialization is also substantial. Only 34 of Gemini's Insurance Top 100 domains also appear in Gemini's broader High-Stakes Consumer Decisions Top 100. The final Insurance child-study Top 100 lists show Gemini sharing 55 domains with Google AI Mode, 53 with Google AI Overviews, 43 with Perplexity, 38 with ChatGPT and 30 with Microsoft Copilot.
The broader Insurance Citation Authority Study reports 80.2% median monthly Top 100 persistence, 29.0% median cross-platform Top 100 portability, and an approximate 51.2 percentage-point Persistence-Portability Gap. It also reports 16 domains appearing in the Insurance Top 100 for all six platform families.
The Persistence-Portability Gap framework helps interpret Article 59 correctly. Insurance source authority was highly persistent at the family level but much less transferable across engines, while Gemini's own Insurance source market rotated more quickly. Article 59 should not manufacture a Gemini-specific gap by subtracting 49.3% temporal persistence from a single pairwise platform overlap because those comparison structures are different.
Gemini also requires source-surface cleanup. The supporting source study excludes 124 myactivity.google.com entries, about 4.6% of the 2,689 captured citation entries after exact-repeat handling. Account-activity surfaces should not be interpreted as publisher authority.
Citation visibility should remain separate from brand mentions, recommendation rate, rank, sentiment, citation-recommendation coupling and downstream business outcomes. A visible Reddit citation does not prove that Reddit caused Gemini to recommend a carrier, broker, policy, publisher or comparison service.
Commercial Action Matrix: What Publishers and CMOs Can Do With the Findings
| Research finding | What insurance publishers can responsibly do or say | What carriers, brokers and CMOs can reasonably do |
|---|---|---|
| Reddit ranked #7 across the three-month Gemini Insurance source study but fell from #4 to #19 monthly | "Reddit remained a meaningful aggregate Gemini Insurance source, but its current visibility weakened." | Report aggregate authority and current-month visibility separately. |
| Balanced event share fell 56.1% and response coverage fell 60.1% | "Both direct citation metrics declined materially on the same nine-vertical endpoint." | Maintain a fixed Gemini Insurance prompt panel and monitor both metrics monthly. |
| The strict matched set produced 9 losses and 3 gains | "The same-prompt panel moved in the same negative direction as the aggregate panel." | Use matched loss/gain reporting alongside aggregate share and rank. |
| Exact McNemar p is approximately 0.146 | "The paired imbalance is not statistically significant at the conventional 0.05 threshold." | Do not describe the matched subset as independently conclusive evidence of decline. |
| The Top 100 capture 79.9% of appearances but median monthly persistence is 49.3% | "Gemini's Insurance source market is concentrated but still rotates materially." | Maintain a recurring core while refreshing the changing monthly perimeter. |
| Only 34 Insurance Top 100 domains also appear in broad Gemini's Top 100 | "Insurance authority can be category-specific rather than platform-wide." | Use Insurance-specific source maps for PR, partnerships and earned-media planning. |
| Gemini shares 55 Insurance Top 100 domains with Google AI Mode but only 30 with Copilot | "Source portability varies materially by engine pair." | Maintain a shared cross-platform core plus Gemini-specific and engine-specific priorities. |
| The Insurance family shows 80.2% persistence but only 29.0% portability | "Insurance source authority is much more durable over time than transferable across engines." | Separate source-specific drift, platform-category churn, family persistence and cross-platform portability. |
| The parent replacement analysis is multi-platform | "No evidence here supports naming one publisher as the Gemini-only replacement for Reddit." | Diversify source strategy rather than moving effort to one assumed replacement domain. |
| Citation visibility is not recommendation causality | "This study measures visible source presence, not endorsement." | Track citations separately from mentions, recommendations, rank, sentiment and conversion outcomes. |

Where Article 59 Fits in the High-Stakes Consumer Decisions Corpus
Article 59 is a child analysis of two parent studies:
- the Insurance Reddit decline study, which provides the balanced family endpoint, cross-platform comparison and broader replacement analysis; and
- the Gemini Insurance source study, which provides the surrounding three-month source market, including Reddit's #7 aggregate rank and 2.70% response coverage, 53 domains present in all three monthly Top 100s and 49.3% median monthly Top 100 persistence.
The platform-level context comes from the overall Gemini Top 100 study. The broader interpretation comes from the 2026 AI Citation Authority Study, the overall Reddit decline study, the cross-platform citation-overlap study, the citation-drift study, and the Persistence-Portability Gap framework. Those studies answer different questions and should not be collapsed into one visibility score.
The Core Finding: Reddit's Gemini Insurance Citation Share Fell More Than 56%
Questions This Section Answers
- How large was the July-to-September decline after holding the insurance vertical set constant?
- Did both citation-event share and response coverage move in the same direction?
- Could September-only insurance verticals explain the decline?
The primary endpoint comparison uses the nine Insurance verticals represented in both July and September 2026.
| Metric | July 2026 | September 2026 | Relative change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reddit share of Gemini citation events | 3.15% | 1.39% | -56.1% |
| Gemini responses citing Reddit | 4.38% | 1.75% | -60.1% |
The decline is substantial under both denominators.
Citation-event share asks what portion of all eligible public citation occurrences belonged to Reddit. Response citation coverage asks what percentage of eligible Gemini answers cited Reddit at least once.
Both declined by more than half.
The balanced design also removes a straightforward composition explanation. Long-Term Care Insurance, Renters Insurance and Vision Insurance appear later in the quarter but do not have July source datasets in the frozen corpus. Excluding them still leaves Reddit with a 56.1% event-share decline and a 60.1% response-coverage decline.

The Strict Matched Test Found Nine Reddit Losses and Three Gains
Questions This Section Answers
- Did Reddit decline when the exact prompt and platform were held constant?
- How many matched scenarios gained Reddit by September?
- Was the paired loss-gain imbalance statistically significant?
The strict matched analysis requires the same normalized prompt on the same Gemini surface to have one eligible analytical observation in July and one in September.
169 scenarios met that contract.
| July Reddit citation | September Reddit citation | Matched scenarios |
|---|---|---|
| Yes | Yes | 0 |
| Yes | No | 9 |
| No | Yes | 3 |
| No | No | 157 |
| Total | 169 |
Matched Reddit response coverage moved from 9 / 169 = 5.33% in July to 3 / 169 = 1.78% in September.
That is a 66.7% relative decline.
The matched loss-to-gain ratio is 3.0 to 1.
For the 12 discordant pairs, the exact two-sided McNemar p-value is approximately 0.146.
That means the matched directional imbalance is not statistically significant at a conventional 0.05 threshold on its own.
This matters for interpretation. The aggregate balanced panel clearly declines. The matched panel also moves in the same direction, but its absolute Reddit counts are small enough that the paired test has limited power.
The defensible conclusion is therefore:
Gemini's insurance Reddit visibility declined materially in the aggregate, while the strict matched subset provides directionally consistent but not independently conclusive statistical evidence.
Reddit Remained a Top 10 Gemini Insurance Source Across the Full Quarter
Questions This Section Answers
- Did Reddit disappear from Gemini insurance answers for the entire quarter?
- How important was Reddit in the pooled three-month source market?
- Why can a quarterly rank hide an endpoint decline?
The full three-month Gemini insurance source market still gives Reddit meaningful visibility.
| Three-month Gemini insurance metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Eligible deduplicated responses | 1,705 |
| Public-facing citation events | 2,565 |
| Registrable cited domains | 404 |
| Domain-response appearances | 2,479 |
| Reddit-citing responses | 46 |
| Reddit response coverage | 2.70% |
| Reddit citation events | 48 |
| Reddit event share | 1.87% |
| Reddit overall rank | #7 |
| Reddit insurance vertical breadth | 9 source labels |
| myactivity.google.com entries excluded | 124 |
Reddit ranked #7 across the quarter.
The monthly sequence shows the weakening more clearly:
| Month | Reddit rank in Gemini insurance source market |
|---|---|
| July 2026 | #4 |
| August 2026 | #12 |
| September 2026 | #19 |
Reddit therefore remained prominent enough in July to preserve a Top 10 pooled-quarter rank even as its monthly position deteriorated.
That is why quarter-wide source rank and current-state citation visibility should both be reported.

Gemini's Insurance Source Market Was Highly Category-Specific
Questions This Section Answers
- Was Reddit competing mostly with broad web sources or insurance specialists?
- Which domains dominated Gemini insurance answers?
- How specialized was Gemini's insurance source market?
The Gemini insurance source market was not dominated by the same broad-web sources that often lead all-topic citation studies.
The leading domains were:
| Rank | Domain | Response citation coverage |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | money.com | 13.37% |
| 2 | forbes.com | 9.68% |
| 3 | moneygeek.com | 6.04% |
| 4 | squaremouth.com | 3.05% |
| 5 | pawlicy.com | 2.93% |
| 6 | healthcareinsider.com | 2.76% |
| 7 | reddit.com | 2.70% |
| 8 | insure.com | 2.46% |
| 9 | lendingtree.com | 2.46% |
| 10 | valuepenguin.com | 2.40% |
Only 34 of the Gemini insurance Top 100 also appear in Gemini's broader High-Stakes Consumer Decisions Top 100.
That means roughly two-thirds of the insurance-specific Top 100 would be missed by a strategy based only on a broad Gemini leaderboard.
The source market also rewards narrow specialists.
Examples from the frozen source study include:
- Pawlicy reaching 19.5% response coverage in Pet Insurance.
- HealthcareInsider reaching 19.5% in Health Insurance.
- MoneyGeek reaching 20.0% in Renters Insurance.
The implication is that Reddit's decline occurred inside a source ecosystem where category and product specialization matter heavily.
Gemini's Reddit Decline Was Milder Than Perplexity's but Steeper Than Google's AI Search Surfaces
Questions This Section Answers
- How did Gemini compare with the other insurance AI platforms?
- Which platforms showed the strongest Reddit losses?
- Why should insurance teams avoid one blended source KPI?
The parent insurance study shows substantial platform divergence.
| Platform | July Reddit event share | September Reddit event share | Relative change | Matched losses | Matched gains |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perplexity | 2.14% | 0.00% | -100.0% | 6 | 0 |
| ChatGPT | 7.48% | 2.31% | -69.1% | 22 | 4 |
| Gemini | 3.15% | 1.39% | -56.1% | 9 | 3 |
| Google AI Overviews | 3.36% | 2.25% | -33.1% | 49 | 25 |
| Google AI Mode | 3.18% | 2.13% | -33.1% | 38 | 21 |
| Microsoft Copilot | 0.00% | 0.00% | N/A | 0 | 0 |
Gemini sits in the middle.
Its decline is materially larger than the approximately one-third endpoint declines in Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode.
But Gemini does not fall to zero like Perplexity, and its matched loss-gain imbalance is less extreme than ChatGPT's.
For insurance brands, that means "Reddit visibility in AI" is not one metric.
It is a collection of platform-specific source behaviors that should be tracked separately.

What Appeared When Reddit Disappeared?
Questions This Section Answers
- Did one publisher replace Reddit in Gemini insurance answers?
- Can the nine Gemini losses be attributed to a single source?
- What can the broader insurance replacement study tell us?
This Gemini child analysis does not claim that one publisher replaced Reddit in the nine matched Gemini loss scenarios.
The parent insurance study examined 124 Reddit-loss scenarios across all tracked platforms and found a distributed replacement pattern.
The most common newly appearing September domains were:
| Newly appearing September domain | Reddit-loss scenarios | Share of all-platform insurance Reddit-loss scenarios |
|---|---|---|
| forbes.com | 30 | 24.2% |
| money.com | 23 | 18.5% |
| youtube.com | 13 | 10.5% |
| nerdwallet.com | 13 | 10.5% |
| wsj.com | 11 | 8.9% |
| insurify.com | 9 | 7.3% |
| americanvisitorinsurance.com | 9 | 7.3% |
| cnbc.com | 8 | 6.5% |
| nytimes.com | 7 | 5.6% |
| worldnomads.com | 7 | 5.6% |
| allianztravelinsurance.com | 7 | 5.6% |
Those results come from the all-platform insurance matched-loss population.
They should not be re-labeled as a Gemini-only replacement table.
For Gemini specifically, the defensible conclusion is narrower: nine matched July Reddit-positive scenarios lost Reddit, three previously Reddit-negative scenarios gained it, and the broader Gemini insurance source market continued to cite a diverse set of broad and specialist publishers.
How This Study Relates to Prior Gemini Citation Research
Questions This Section Answers
- Why can broad Gemini research rank Reddit #1 while this insurance study ranks it #7?
- What does broader Q3 research say about social citation behavior?
- Which methodological differences matter before comparing percentages?
Ahrefs' September 2026 Gemini study ranks Reddit #1 at 28.5% mention share across more than 3 million U.S. queries spanning all topics. Article 59 ranks Reddit #7 at 2.70% response citation coverage across a three-month high-stakes Insurance panel. Those findings are not contradictory because the query populations, denominators and time windows are different.
Ahrefs defines mention share as a domain's citations divided by the summed citations of the top sources in its broad all-topic leaderboard. Article 59 reports response citation coverage and citation-event share inside one commercial decision family. The percentages therefore should not be merged or treated as the same metric.
Tinuiti's Q3 2026 AI Citation Trends Report tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot across apparel, beauty, electronics, food and beverage, home and garden, manufacturing, OTC health, technology, and transportation and logistics. Tinuiti reports that most tracked AI platforms were at or near Q3 highs in social citation share, with Perplexity as a notable exception.
That broader social trend can coexist with Article 59's Reddit-specific Insurance decline. Social citations are not equivalent to Reddit citations, Tinuiti's categories differ from Insurance, and its denominator differs from this study.
The defensible comparison across these studies is therefore platform, category, time period, query population and metric, not decimal-point equivalence. Broad Gemini prominence for Reddit does not guarantee stable direct Reddit citation visibility in high-stakes Insurance decisions.

Which Insurance Verticals Are Represented?
The full Gemini Insurance source study contains 12 source labels:
- Car Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Disability Insurance
- Health Insurance
- Life Insurance Companies
- Long-Term Care Insurance
- Medicare Supplement Insurance
- Pet Insurance
- Renters Insurance
- Short Term Health Insurance
- Travel Insurance
- Vision Insurance
The balanced July-to-September endpoint uses nine of those source verticals.
The three labels without July source data are:
- Long-Term Care Insurance
- Renters Insurance
- Vision Insurance
Those missing July source datasets are not treated as measured zeros.
The three-month Gemini source ranking shows Reddit appearing across nine insurance source labels.
What This Means for Insurance Brands and CMOs
Questions This Section Answers
- Should an insurer still invest in Reddit if Gemini citations declined?
- Which sources appear more important for Gemini insurance visibility?
- How should teams allocate measurement and outreach?
1. Treat Reddit as one Gemini authority surface, not the entire source strategy
Reddit remained a Top 10 source across the pooled quarter, but its endpoint citation visibility fell by more than half.
A source strategy that assumes Reddit will retain a fixed Gemini role is fragile.
2. Build around Gemini's insurance-specific source ecosystem
Money.com, Forbes, MoneyGeek, Squaremouth, Pawlicy, HealthcareInsider, Insure.com and ValuePenguin all have meaningful measured visibility.
3. Measure by insurance product
Gemini's source leaders differ sharply by product.
Pet Insurance, Health Insurance, Renters Insurance, Travel Insurance and Life Insurance should not be managed from one generic publisher list.
4. Track raw counts when baselines are modest
The matched Gemini panel contains only 12 discordant Reddit scenarios.
Relative percentages are informative, but raw counts remain essential.
5. Separate citation visibility from recommendation visibility
A Reddit citation disappearing does not prove an insurer will lose recommendation visibility.
Track citations, brand mentions, recommendation rate, comparison inclusion, sentiment and first-party citations separately.

What This Means for Insurance Publishers
Gemini's insurance source map is unusually specialized.
Only 34 of the insurance Top 100 overlap with Gemini's broader Top 100.
That creates an opportunity for insurance publishers that may look modest in platform-wide rankings but become prominent within specific high-intent insurance verticals.
Useful publisher metrics include:
- response citation coverage by insurance vertical;
- monthly rank persistence;
- URL-level citation recurrence;
- category lift versus Gemini overall;
- cross-platform coverage;
- matched prompt persistence; and
- whether citation visibility changes alongside brand recommendation exposure.
The proper claim is measured source visibility in a defined Gemini insurance decision environment, not Gemini trust or recommendation causality.
How This Study Relates to the Parent Insurance Reddit Study
The parent insurance study found that Reddit's balanced all-platform citation-event share fell from 3.36% to 1.92%, a 43.0% decline.
Balanced response citation coverage fell from 11.53% to 6.80%, down 41.0%.
Gemini declined more sharply than the blended insurance family.
Its event share fell from 3.15% to 1.39%, down 56.1%, while response coverage fell from 4.38% to 1.75%, down 60.1%.
The all-platform matched study found 124 Reddit losses and 53 gains.
Gemini contributed 9 losses and 3 gains across 169 matched scenarios.
This child analysis therefore shows that Gemini participated materially in the broader insurance Reddit decline, but from a smaller baseline than ChatGPT and without Perplexity's complete September disappearance.
How This Study Is Different
This article narrows the broader insurance Reddit research to one platform, one high-stakes family and one three-month research period.
It combines:
- a 1,705-response Gemini insurance source slice;
- a balanced nine-vertical July-to-September endpoint;
- a 169-scenario exact matched prompt-plus-Gemini test;
- both citation-event share and response citation coverage;
- a three-month source market containing 404 registrable cited domains;
- monthly Reddit rank movement from #4 to #12 to #19;
- explicit treatment of 124 myactivity.google.com technical entries;
- comparison with broad all-topic Gemini research; and
- comparison with the parent insurance platform results.
The narrow research question is:
How stable was Reddit as a directly cited source in Gemini for consequential insurance consumer decisions from July through September 2026?

Why AI Citation Studies Can Disagree
Questions This Section Answers
- Why can broad Gemini research show Reddit as a leader while this insurance study shows a steep decline?
- Why can matched statistical significance be weaker than the aggregate decline?
- What should insurers compare before using an external benchmark?
Query population
Broad all-topic Gemini queries contain many categories where Reddit may be more frequently useful.
Time period
A pooled three-month source ranking and a July-to-September endpoint comparison answer different questions.
Denominator
Citation-event share, response citation coverage and mention share are not interchangeable.
Category composition
The balanced endpoint excludes Long-Term Care Insurance, Renters Insurance and Vision Insurance because they do not have July source datasets.
Missing versus zero
Missing July data is not converted into zero visibility.
Low counts in the matched panel
The matched Gemini test contains 12 discordant Reddit scenarios. A 9-to-3 imbalance is directionally meaningful but produces limited statistical power.
Technical-source cleanup
The Gemini insurance source study excludes 124 myactivity.google.com entries from the public publisher ranking.
Prompt matching
The strict paired analysis requires the same normalized prompt and Gemini surface at both endpoints.
Prompt weighting
The panel is not weighted by premium volume, policy count, search volume, CPC, revenue, lead value or conversion probability.
The correct question is therefore not "What is Reddit's universal Gemini citation rate?"
The useful question is:
What did Reddit citation visibility look like for this platform, this insurance decision population, this time period and this denominator?
Methodology

- 2,479 domain-response appearances
Exact analytical repeat handling
Exact analytical repeats are controlled using the project's documented repeat logic so duplicate records do not inflate source coverage.

Matched prompt text is normalized using Unicode NFKC normalization, case folding, whitespace collapse and trimming.
Domain normalization
Citation URLs are parsed to hostname, lowercased, stripped of leading www where applicable and consolidated to registrable domain using Public Suffix List logic.
Reddit identification
Reddit is identified at the registrable-domain level as reddit.com.
Public technical exclusions
The Gemini insurance public ranking excludes 124 citations to myactivity.google.com, a Google account-activity surface rather than a substantive publisher page.
Citation-event share
Reddit citation-event share = Reddit citation events / all eligible public citation events
Response citation coverage
Reddit response citation coverage = eligible responses citing Reddit at least once / all eligible responses
Reddit counts no more than once per response for this metric.
Balanced endpoint
The July-to-September endpoint uses the nine insurance verticals represented in both endpoint months.
Long-Term Care Insurance, Renters Insurance and Vision Insurance are excluded because they do not have July source datasets in the frozen corpus.
Matched prompt-plus-platform test
The strict matched Gemini panel contains 169 scenarios.
The contingency table is:
- both July and September cite Reddit: 0
- July cites Reddit, September does not: 9
- July does not cite Reddit, September cites Reddit: 3
- neither month cites Reddit: 157
Matched response coverage falls from 5.3254% to 1.7751%.
The exact two-sided McNemar p-value is approximately 0.145996.
Three-month source-market context
Across the full three-month Gemini insurance source slice:
- Reddit appears in 46 responses
- Reddit response citation coverage is 2.6979%
- Reddit generates 48 citation events
- Reddit accounts for approximately 1.8713% of public citation events
- Reddit spans 9 insurance source labels
- Reddit ranks #7 overall
- Reddit's monthly rank moves #4 → #12 → #19

Limitations
- The study covers one frozen three-month research window and should not be treated as a permanent Gemini rule.
- The prompt panel is designed for research comparability and high-stakes commercial relevance, not search-volume-weighted market share.
- Visible citation does not prove recommendation causality, hidden retrieval influence or training-data use.
- The strict matched Gemini panel contains only 12 discordant Reddit scenarios, limiting statistical power.
- The exact matched p-value does not cross a conventional 0.05 significance threshold.
- Three insurance source labels do not have July data and are excluded from the balanced endpoint.
- Three-month aggregate coverage can conceal substantial monthly movement.
- Domain-level aggregation hides page-level source differences.
- Technical-source cleanup can make denominators differ from raw citation exports.
- Gemini behavior can vary by geography, personalization, account state, model version, retrieval configuration and product rollout.
- The all-platform replacement table should not be interpreted as a Gemini-only replacement analysis.
- External studies use different query populations, dates, markets, metrics and collection systems.
