LLM Authority Index Research | Gemini | Insurance | July-September 2026

Gemini uses a highly category-specific source ecosystem when consumers ask consequential questions about insurance coverage, carriers, premiums, policy types, and product comparisons.

Across 1,705 deduplicated Gemini responses covering 12 insurance decision verticals, Money.com ranked #1, appearing as a cited domain in 13.37% of eligible responses. Forbes ranked #2 at 9.68%, MoneyGeek #3 at 6.04%, Squaremouth #4 at 3.05%, and Pawlicy #5 at 2.93%.

The insurance ranking is more concentrated than Gemini's overall High-Stakes Consumer Decisions source market. The Top 10 insurance domains account for 32.9% of domain-response appearances, compared with 23.9% for Gemini overall. The insurance Top 100 account for 79.9%, compared with 54.1% in the broader Gemini study.

Only 34 of the insurance Top 100 domains also appear in Gemini's overall Top 100. That means two-thirds of the category-specific Top 100 would be missed by a strategy based only on Gemini's broad high-stakes leaderboard.

Gemini also requires a technical-source audit. In the deduplicated insurance slice, 124 captured citation entries pointed to myactivity.google.com, a Google account-activity surface rather than a substantive publisher page. Those entries were excluded from the public ranking.

This is a source-visibility ranking. It is not a trust score, quality grade, recommendation score, or causal ranking. A domain can be frequently cited without causing Gemini to recommend a particular insurer, carrier, policy, broker, or comparison service.

Answer Capsule

Which websites does Gemini cite most often when answering high-stakes insurance questions?

Money.com leads this measured Gemini insurance panel with 13.37% response citation coverage, followed by Forbes at 9.68%, MoneyGeek at 6.04%, Squaremouth at 3.05%, and Pawlicy at 2.93%. The analysis covers 1,705 deduplicated Gemini responses, 2,565 public-facing citation events, 404 registrable cited domains, and 2,479 domain-response appearances across 12 insurance verticals.

Key Findings

  • Money.com ranks #1, cited in 228 of 1,705 eligible Gemini insurance responses, or 13.37%.
  • Forbes ranks #2 at 9.68%, followed by MoneyGeek at 6.04%, Squaremouth at 3.05%, and Pawlicy at 2.93%.
  • The Gemini insurance slice contains 2,565 public-facing citation events, 404 cited domains, and 2,479 domain-response appearances.
  • 124 myactivity.google.com entries were excluded from the public ranking. They represented about 4.6% of the 2,689 captured citation entries remaining after exact-repeat handling.
  • The Top 10 account for 32.9% of domain-response appearances and 32.6% of public citation events.
  • The Top 100 account for 79.9% of domain-response appearances and 79.6% of public citation events.
  • Only 34 of the insurance Top 100 also appear in Gemini's overall Top 100 across all four high-stakes decision families.
  • 53 domains appear in the Gemini insurance Top 100 in July, August, and September, with a 49.3% median monthly Top 100 Jaccard similarity.
  • Money.com ranks #1 in July, August, and September. Forbes ranks #2 in all three months, while MoneyGeek ranks #3 in all three months.
  • MoneyGeek's insurance response coverage is about 4.28 times its Gemini-wide coverage. Squaremouth, Pawlicy, and HealthcareInsider are each about 4.5 times more prominent inside insurance than across Gemini overall.
  • Specialist leadership changes sharply by product. Pawlicy reaches 19.5% of Pet Insurance responses, HealthcareInsider 19.5% of Health Insurance responses, and MoneyGeek 20.0% of Renters Insurance responses.

Questions This Study Answers

  • Which websites dominate Gemini citations for high-stakes Insurance decisions, and how does that source hierarchy change by vertical?
  • How persistent is Gemini's Insurance source market over time, and how portable is that authority to other AI platforms?
  • What should insurance publishers, carriers, brokers and CMOs measure before allocating resources to Gemini-focused content, PR, partnerships or earned media?

Why This Research Belongs in Daily AI Search Marketing Decisions

Article 35 sits at the intersection of two commercially useful views of the same source market:

  • the Gemini platform view, which asks which sources recur across high-stakes consumer decisions on Gemini; and
  • the Insurance decision-family view, which asks which sources recur across six AI platform families for one high-stakes commercial category.

For publishers and insurance specialists, that intersection supports a more precise claim than saying a domain is simply "visible in Gemini." A source can document whether it is cited specifically for consequential insurance decisions, whether that visibility persists over time, and whether its authority is broad across multiple insurance verticals or concentrated in one specialist decision journey.

For carriers, brokers, comparison sites, CMOs, PR teams and agencies, the operating question is:

Which sources are already present around the exact insurance decisions our customers ask Gemini to help them make?

Five findings matter for daily planning:

  • the Top 100 account for 79.9% of domain-response appearances in this Gemini Insurance slice;
  • the Top 10 account for 32.9% of domain-response appearances;
  • only 34 domains overlap between this Insurance Top 100 and Gemini's broader High-Stakes Top 100;
  • 53 domains remained in the monthly Insurance Top 100 in July, August and September, and the median of the three monthly Top 100 Jaccard comparisons was 49.3%; and
  • the verified final child-study Top 100 lists show Gemini sharing 55 domains with Google AI Mode, 53 with Google AI Overviews, 43 with Perplexity, 38 with ChatGPT and 30 with Microsoft Copilot.

The parent Insurance Citation Authority Study provides the category-level Persistence-Portability Gap interpretation. It reports 80.2% temporal persistence, 29.0% cross-platform portability, and an approximate 51.2 percentage-point Persistence-Portability Gap for Insurance.

Article 35 answers a narrower Gemini-specific question. Its 49.3% median monthly Top 100 persistence should not be subtracted from one pairwise platform overlap to create a Gemini-specific gap. The parent PPG uses category-level summary statistics across the broader family.

The concentration result also should not be confused with stability. Gemini's Insurance source market is concentrated, but its monthly Top 100 still rotated materially. Concentration, persistence and portability are distinct measurements.

This study also excludes 124 citation entries pointing to myactivity.google.com, a Google account-activity surface rather than a substantive publisher page. Technical and account surfaces should not be interpreted as editorial authority.

Citation visibility should remain separate from brand mentions, recommendation rate, ranking, sentiment, citation-recommendation coupling and downstream outcomes. A source can be frequently cited without causing Gemini to recommend a particular carrier, policy, broker or comparison service.

Commercial Action Matrix: What Publishers and CMOs Can Do With the Findings

Research findingWhat insurance publishers can responsibly sayWhat insurance brands and CMOs can reasonably do
Money.com, Forbes, MoneyGeek, Squaremouth and Pawlicy lead this Gemini Insurance source map"Our domain can be benchmarked against the sources most frequently cited by Gemini for this defined Insurance decision set."Use category leaders as a research tier, then test fit for the exact insurance vertical and prompt cluster.
The Top 100 account for 79.9% of domain-response appearances"Gemini's measured Insurance source market is concentrated."Prioritize the recurring source core before expanding into specialists and the long tail.
Only 34 domains overlap with broad Gemini's Top 100"Category-specific Insurance authority can be commercially important without broad platform-wide rank."Use Insurance-specific source maps instead of generic Gemini leaderboards.
53 domains remained in the Top 100 across all three months and median monthly Jaccard was 49.3%"A three-month aggregate should not be described as fixed or permanent."Refresh source-priority lists on a fixed cadence and track gains, losses and rank movement.
Gemini shares 55 Insurance Top 100 domains with Google AI Mode but only 30 with Microsoft Copilot"Source portability differs materially by platform pair."Maintain a shared cross-platform core plus Gemini-specific and engine-specific priorities.
The parent Insurance study reports a 51.2-point exploratory Persistence-Portability Gap"The broader Insurance source portfolio is far more stable over time than transferable across engines."Separate the time question from the platform question when allocating content, PR and partnership resources.
Money.com, Forbes and MoneyGeek held the top three monthly positions throughout the period"Some Gemini Insurance leaders are unusually persistent even while the broader source set rotates."Separate durable core sources from the changing monthly perimeter.
Squaremouth, Pawlicy and HealthcareInsider gain roughly 4.5x relative prominence inside Insurance"Specialist authority can become much stronger after the query population is narrowed."Preserve specialist sources when they dominate the exact Insurance decision, even if their platform-wide rank is modest.
124 account-activity citations were excluded"The ranking reflects substantive public-facing source citations rather than Google account infrastructure."Audit raw Gemini citation exports before using them for publisher investment decisions.
Citation visibility does not establish recommendation causality"Our content is measurably present in the visible source layer."Measure citations, mentions, recommendations, rank, sentiment and business outcomes separately.

The daily operating model is therefore four-layered:

  1. Current Gemini Insurance core: maintain the sources that matter now, with the collection date attached.
  2. Vertical and prompt-cluster layer: identify which sources dominate the exact auto, health, life, travel, pet, renters or other Insurance decision.
  3. Longitudinal check: monitor whether priority sources persist, decline, rotate or change rank.
  4. Cross-platform check: determine whether the same sources also matter in Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot.

Citation Concentration

Gemini's insurance source distribution is substantially more concentrated than Gemini's broader high-stakes source market.

Ranking depthInsurance share of domain-response appearancesInsurance share of citation events
Top 1032.9%32.6%
Top 2549.3%48.6%
Top 5064.7%63.8%
Top 10079.9%79.6%

For comparison, Gemini overall places 23.9% of domain-response appearances in its Top 10, 33.6% in the Top 25, 42.6% in the Top 50, and 54.1% in the Top 100.

The insurance filter therefore creates a much more actionable publisher set. That does not mean a handful of domains explain the entire ecosystem. The product-level tables below show that specialist sources become important once the category is narrowed further.

This section answers

  • Is Gemini's insurance source market more concentrated than Gemini overall?
  • How much of observed citation visibility is captured by the Top 10, Top 25, Top 50, and Top 100?
  • Can an insurance brand focus only on the biggest category-wide publishers?

Insurance Specialization vs. Gemini Overall

Only 34 domains in this insurance Top 100 also appear in Gemini's overall Top 100 across the full High-Stakes Consumer Decisions panel.

Several insurance specialists become dramatically more important after the category filter is applied. MoneyGeek rises from 1.41% Gemini-wide coverage to 6.04% in insurance. Squaremouth rises from 0.68% to 3.05%, Pawlicy from 0.65% to 2.93%, and HealthcareInsider from 0.61% to 2.76%.

Money.com and Forbes are different. They already rank near the top Gemini-wide and become even stronger in insurance. That combination of broad platform authority and category strength is different from narrow specialist authority, but both can matter commercially.

This section answers

  • Which sources are disproportionately important inside insurance decisions?
  • Which Gemini leaders are broad authorities versus insurance specialists?
  • How much information is lost when marketers use only Gemini's overall Top 100?

Several patterns stand out:

  • Money.com leads Dental Insurance, Life Insurance Companies, Long-Term Care Insurance, and Travel Insurance.
  • MoneyGeek is tied for the Car Insurance lead and leads Renters Insurance and Short Term Health Insurance.
  • HealthcareInsider leads Health Insurance at 19.5% response coverage.
  • Pawlicy leads Pet Insurance at 19.5%.
  • Policygenius leads Disability Insurance.
  • MedicareGuide leads Medicare Supplement Insurance.
  • Vision Insurance produces a different source set, led by America's Best in this Gemini slice.

Some verticals have small response counts, particularly Long-Term Care Insurance and Short Term Health Insurance. Those leaderboards are descriptive and should not be treated as stable estimates without a larger sample.

This section answers

  • Which publishers lead specific insurance product categories in Gemini?
  • Should a pet insurer use the same source list as a health, dental, life, renters, or travel insurer?
  • Which verticals have sample sizes that warrant extra caution?

Breadth vs. Specialization

A category leader can earn its position through breadth, depth, or both.

Forbes appears across all 12 insurance verticals in this Gemini slice. Money.com appears across 10, and MoneyGeek across 10. Those domains combine broad category reach with strong overall coverage.

Squaremouth and Pawlicy illustrate the opposite pattern. Each appears in only one insurance vertical in this analysis, but each is strong enough inside that product to rank in the overall insurance Top 5. Squaremouth's visibility comes from Travel Insurance, while Pawlicy's comes from Pet Insurance.

That distinction matters for commercial source mapping. A multi-line insurer may care most about broad publishers that recur across products. A specialist brand may care far more about a narrow source with intense presence in its exact decision category.

Monthly Persistence and Citation Drift

The Gemini insurance Top 100 changed across the three-month window, but the top three were exceptionally stable.

Monthly Top 100 comparisonShared domainsJaccard similarity
2026-07 vs. 2026-086649.3%
2026-07 vs. 2026-095739.9%
2026-08 vs. 2026-097458.7%

53 domains appeared in the Gemini insurance Top 100 in all three months. The median of the three monthly Top 100 Jaccard comparisons was 49.3%.

Money.com ranked #1 in July, August, and September. Forbes ranked #2 in all three months, while MoneyGeek ranked #3 in all three months. That is unusually persistent leadership at the top even while the lower portions of the source set moved substantially.

Squaremouth moved from #5 to #4 to #14, while Pawlicy moved from #11 to #7 to #4. Reddit moved from #4 in July to #12 in August and #19 in September.

Aggregate leaderboard persistence should not be confused with prompt-level persistence. A publisher can remain strong at the category level while the exact sources attached to individual prompts turn over.

Platform Differences: Gemini's Insurance Source Market Is Not Interchangeable With Other AI Engines

The final Insurance child-study Top 100 lists show meaningful cross-platform overlap, but no other engine uses the same source portfolio.

ComparisonShared Top 100 DomainsJaccard Similarity
Gemini Insurance vs. Google AI Mode Insurance5537.9%
Gemini Insurance vs. Google AI Overviews Insurance5336.1%
Gemini Insurance vs. Perplexity Insurance4327.4%
Gemini Insurance vs. ChatGPT Insurance3823.5%
Gemini Insurance vs. Microsoft Copilot Insurance3017.6%

Gemini is closest to the two Google AI search surfaces in this Insurance decision family. Its overlap with Perplexity is lower, ChatGPT is farther away, and Microsoft Copilot is the least similar sibling Top 100.

The ranking order also differs materially. Gemini begins with Money.com, Forbes, MoneyGeek, Squaremouth and Pawlicy. Copilot begins with Forbes, U.S. News, NerdWallet, MoneyGeek and Money.com. Perplexity begins with NerdWallet. ChatGPT gives Forbes much greater coverage. Google's two surfaces elevate U.S. News, NerdWallet and Reddit more strongly.

The operating implication is to maintain three layers: a cross-platform Insurance core, a Gemini-specific source layer, and a vertical-specific specialist layer.

Prior Research and Why the Rankings Can Look Different

Ahrefs: broad all-topic U.S. Gemini queries

Ahrefs' September 2026 Gemini citation study tracks a broad U.S. all-topic query population. Reddit leads at 28.5% mention share, followed by YouTube at 14.6%, Wikipedia at 8.8%, and Walmart at 2.8%. Ahrefs: The 50 Most-Cited Websites in Gemini

That is very different from Article 35, where Money.com, Forbes, MoneyGeek, Squaremouth and Pawlicy lead. The prompt population, category, metric and denominator are different.

Conductor: Gemini is one part of a much larger Insurance citation market

Conductor's August 2026 Insurance benchmark analyzes more than 3.6 million Insurance brand citations across more than 178,000 prompts from January through May 2026 across seven answer engines. In that corpus, Google AI Mode produced 43.9% of Insurance citations, Perplexity 33.6%, ChatGPT 11.9%, Gemini 6.9%, Copilot 2.1% and Claude 1.6%. Conductor also reports 4.6 citations per Gemini answer. Conductor: 2026 Insurance AI Search Benchmarks

Conductor's denominator is citation volume across a large Insurance brand corpus. Article 35 ranks cited domains by response-level coverage inside a narrower high-stakes decision panel. The studies should not be merged numerically, but both show why Gemini should be measured separately from the other engines.

Tinuiti: commercial category and platform behavior differ

Tinuiti's Q3 2026 AI Citation Trends Report tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot across multiple commercial categories. Its current public summary emphasizes substantial platform and category differences in source behavior. Insurance is not one of Tinuiti's tracked categories, so its percentages should not be imported into this Insurance ranking. Tinuiti Q3 2026 AI Citation Trends Report

Machine Relations: concentration depends on the denominator

Machine Relations' September 2026 open-web concentration analysis covers 15,782 observed answer runs and 22,179 cited domains across six engines. Its methods note cautions that concentration measured on domain-run citations is not the same as concentration measured on citation events or response-level domain appearances. Machine Relations: How Concentrated Are AI Citations?

That is directly relevant to Article 35. Gemini Insurance is substantially more concentrated than broad Gemini under response-level domain appearances, but that percentage should not be merged with a multi-engine domain-run concentration statistic.

Studies can disagree because of:

  • query selection
  • commercial intent
  • geography
  • time window
  • ranking metric
  • citation-event versus response-level counting
  • source-type classification
  • technical-asset exclusions
  • domain normalization
  • platform mode and UI behavior

The relevant question is not which ranking is universally correct. It is which ranking matches the decision environment and measurement contract a publisher or brand actually cares about.

Why This Study Is Different

This study is not differentiated merely because it publishes a Gemini source list. Broad Gemini leaderboards already exist.

Its narrower contribution is the combination of:

  • one specific AI platform;
  • one defined high-stakes commercial family;
  • 12 insurance product verticals;
  • a three-month July-September window;
  • response-level citation coverage as the primary ranking metric;
  • vertical breadth and specialist depth;
  • monthly rank persistence;
  • explicit technical-source cleanup; and
  • direct comparison with the broader Gemini and cross-platform LLMAI studies.

That makes the result useful to insurance publishers, CMOs, agencies, communications teams, and revenue leaders who need a source map tied to actual insurance decision prompts rather than a broad all-topic popularity ranking.

Why AI Citation Studies Can Disagree

Two well-executed citation studies can produce different rankings without either being wrong.

Common reasons include:

  1. Different query populations. All-topic, informational, commercial, and high-stakes buying prompts surface different sources.
  2. Different metrics. Response coverage, raw citation count, mention share, domain-run share, and pages cited answer different questions.
  3. Different platform surfaces. Gemini behavior should not be assumed to match ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, or Google AI Search.
  4. Different time windows. This study shows meaningful turnover in the lower portion of the insurance Top 100.
  5. Different technical filtering. Account-activity pages, thumbnails, maps, search wrappers, and other technical surfaces can distort raw exports if treated as publishers.
  6. Different domain normalization. Subdomain consolidation changes rankings for large publishers with multiple sections.
  7. Different deduplication rules. Overlapping exports can inflate samples if exact repeats are not anti-double-counted.
  8. Different citation depth. Platforms and extraction pipelines can expose very different numbers of citation links per answer.

The useful question is not which leaderboard is universally correct. It is which measurement contract best matches the decision being made.

What This Means for Insurance Publishers

For publishers, Gemini citation data can support a commercially useful statement when the scope is preserved.

A defensible formulation is:

Our domain was measurably present among the sources Gemini cited when answering high-stakes insurance consumer questions in the July-September 2026 LLM Authority Index panel.

A publisher can strengthen that claim by documenting:

  • category response coverage;
  • breadth across insurance verticals;
  • persistence across multiple months;
  • strength within a specific insurance product; and
  • whether the domain also appears across other AI platforms.

The distinction between broad and specialist authority is commercially important. Money.com, Forbes, and MoneyGeek combine strong category ranks with broad product reach. Squaremouth and Pawlicy have narrow product breadth but enough depth in their specialties to rank near the top category-wide.

Publishers should not convert those observations into a claim that coverage guarantees a brand recommendation or that paid inclusion will create future AI citations.

What This Means for Brands and CMOs

For insurance brands, the data suggests a two-layer Gemini source strategy.

  1. Start with durable Gemini insurance authorities that recur across multiple products and months.
  2. Overlay the exact product vertical, where specialist sources can become more important than the category-wide leaders.

A pet insurer should not use the same publisher priority list as a dental, Medicare supplement, health, life, renters, or travel insurer. The Gemini source ecosystem changes materially across those products.

The data is best used as a research map: identify where Gemini already sources information, evaluate whether the brand is represented accurately on those surfaces, and track whether the source set changes over time. It should not be used to promise that earning a mention on a cited domain will cause a recommendation.

Methodology

Research source

This study uses the frozen July-September 2026 LLM Authority Index High-Stakes Consumer Decisions archive used by the broader 2026 AI Citation Authority Study.

Platform filter

Only observations assigned to the Gemini platform family are included.

Gemini remains separate from Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Those Google surfaces are analyzed independently elsewhere in the series.

Category assignment

Observations are included when their preserved source memberships belong to the Insurance family.

The 12 source verticals are listed in the What We Studied section. Source labels are dataset memberships, not claims that every prompt belongs exclusively to one statistically independent industry.

Exact file deduplication

Byte-identical source files were deduplicated by SHA-256 before observation processing.

Analytical anti-double-counting

Observations were treated as exact repeats when they shared the same:

  • report month;
  • exact raw platform/source surface;
  • normalized prompt text; and
  • exact set of original citation URLs.

One analytical record was retained while preserving originating vertical memberships.

Prompt normalization

Prompt matching uses Unicode NFKC normalization, case folding, whitespace collapse, and trimming. Prompt wording is otherwise preserved.

Extraction failures

No Gemini insurance observation in this slice was explicitly marked as an extraction failure. The broader Gemini archive does contain extraction failures outside this category, and the general methodology excludes such records from valid-response denominators.

Domain normalization

Citation URLs were parsed to hostnames, normalized to lowercase, stripped of leading www., and consolidated to registrable domains using Public Suffix List logic.

Infrastructure exclusions

Obvious non-editorial technical surfaces were excluded from the public ranking. In this Gemini insurance slice, 124 citation entries pointing to myactivity.google.com were removed because the destination is a Google account-activity surface rather than a publisher or substantive source page.

Substantive Google-owned content is not automatically excluded solely because Google owns it.

Primary metric

Response Citation Coverage = eligible Gemini insurance responses citing domain d at least once / all eligible Gemini insurance responses.

The denominator for this article is 1,705 responses.

A domain counts no more than once per response for this metric.

Secondary metric

Citation events are retained as a secondary metric. A response can contain multiple citation events from the same domain even though the domain counts once for response coverage.

Monthly ranks

July, August, and September Top 100 lists are calculated independently from eligible responses in each month.

Vertical views

A deduplicated response can retain more than one originating source membership when overlapping exports contain the same exact observation. Vertical tables therefore describe preserved source memberships and are not assumed to be statistically independent.

No causal interpretation

A visible citation establishes an observed source relationship. It does not prove that the citation caused Gemini to mention, rank, recommend, or convert a consumer for any company.

Limitations

  1. This is a defined high-stakes insurance prompt corpus, not every Gemini query about insurance.
  2. The 12 vertical labels are not statistically independent. Some prompt banks overlap or contain adjacent questions.
  3. Sample sizes differ materially by vertical. Long-Term Care Insurance contains 29 eligible Gemini responses and Short Term Health Insurance 47, so those standalone leaderboards are descriptive and unstable.
  4. Several verticals have different month coverage in the wider archive. Missing periods are not converted into zeros.
  5. Visible citations are not hidden retrieval or training data. A source can influence a response without appearing as a visible citation.
  6. Citation presence is not recommendation causality. A domain can be cited without the company discussed on that domain being recommended.
  7. Registrable-domain aggregation hides page-level differences. Different sections and URLs on one domain can serve different intents.
  8. The study window covers July through September 2026. Gemini source behavior can change after the endpoint.
  9. The platform's citation interface can change. Extraction and presentation behavior may not remain constant indefinitely.
  10. Source type is not a ranking input here. First-party insurers, publishers, government sites, communities, and other sources are ranked together by observed citation visibility.
  11. Cross-study percentages should not be compared without checking denominators and metrics. LLMAI response coverage is not the same metric as mention share or raw citation share used elsewhere.
  12. The study is observational. It measures what was cited, not why Gemini selected a source.

Commercial Disclosure

LLM Authority Index is part of a business ecosystem that provides AI visibility, research, and marketing services. Affiliated businesses may have current or historical commercial relationships with companies or publishers that appear in the dataset.

Commercial relationships are not inputs to the ranking methodology. Domains are included based on observed citation data. No ranking is an endorsement, and no commercial relationship is presented as the cause of a citation or recommendation outcome.
