LLM Authority Index Research | High-Stakes Consumer Decisions | Insurance | Microsoft Copilot | July-September 2026
Reddit was not captured as a direct citation source anywhere in the corrected three-month Microsoft Copilot Insurance slice: 0 of 1,729 deduplicated responses and 0 of 4,923 public-facing citation events cited Reddit. The balanced July and September endpoint and the strict matched panel are both consistent with that broader three-month non-detection.
On the same nine insurance verticals measured at both endpoints, Reddit's share of visible Copilot citation events was 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September. Reddit response citation coverage was also 0.00% at both endpoints.
The strict matched-prompt analysis produced the same result. Across 158 exact prompt-plus-Copilot scenarios observed in both endpoint months, 0 scenarios cited Reddit in both months, 0 lost Reddit, 0 gained Reddit and all 158 cited Reddit in neither July nor September.
Because there are no discordant matched pairs, there is no meaningful McNemar loss-versus-gain significance test to run. The correct result is not applicable.
The important finding is therefore not a percentage decline. There was no measured July Reddit baseline to lose.
Instead, the Copilot insurance result is a platform-specific non-detection inside a source-rich insurance citation market.
Across the broader three-month insurance study, Microsoft Copilot contributed 1,729 deduplicated insurance responses. Its leading cited domains were Forbes at 27.59% response coverage, U.S. News at 20.19%, NerdWallet at 17.18%, MoneyGeek at 15.85%, and Money.com at 8.62%.
That means the Reddit zero was not caused by a general absence of third-party insurance citations.
It occurred while Copilot was actively citing large editorial publishers, insurance comparison publishers and financial information sites at substantial rates.
Important: This article measures visible citations in a defined high-stakes insurance research panel. A zero in this dataset is not proof that Microsoft Copilot never cites Reddit. Copilot citation behavior can vary by product surface, grounding configuration, geography, account state, model version and collection method.

Answer Capsule
How did Reddit citations change in Microsoft Copilot for high-stakes insurance decisions from July to September 2026? No measurable endpoint change was captured because Reddit citation-event share and response citation coverage were both 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September. The strict matched panel contained 158 scenarios, and every one was Reddit-negative at both endpoints, producing 0 losses and 0 gains. The correct interpretation is non-detection in this defined Copilot insurance corpus, not a 100% decline and not evidence that Microsoft Copilot never cites Reddit.
Key Findings
- Balanced Reddit citation-event share: 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September.
- Balanced Reddit response citation coverage: 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September.
- Relative change is not applicable because both endpoints are zero.
- The strict matched panel contains 158 exact prompt-plus-Copilot scenarios.
- Matched outcomes: 0 both, 0 losses, 0 gains, 158 neither.
- Matched Reddit response coverage is 0.00% at both endpoints.
- McNemar testing is not applicable because there are no discordant pairs.
- Microsoft Copilot contributed 1,729 deduplicated insurance responses to the broader three-month insurance source study.
- Copilot's leading insurance sources were Forbes 27.59%, U.S. News 20.19%, NerdWallet 17.18%, MoneyGeek 15.85%, and Money.com 8.62%.
- Copilot's measured insurance source hierarchy differs substantially from Gemini, Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google's AI search surfaces.
- Gemini and Microsoft Copilot had the lowest Top 100 overlap among the insurance platform pairs in the parent source study, sharing only 30 domains, or 17.6% Jaccard similarity.
- The broader insurance study found only 16 domains appearing in the insurance Top 100 across all six platform families.
- Independent September 2026 Ahrefs research on broad U.S. Copilot queries does not list Reddit in its published Top 50.
- Microsoft documents that Copilot web grounding can use generated search queries sent to Bing and that citation availability differs by Copilot surface.
- The rebuilt Article 36 now confirms 4,923 public-facing Copilot Insurance citation events, 624 cited domains, 4,609 domain-response appearances, and 0 Reddit citations across the full three-month slice.

Questions This Study Answers
- Was Reddit a measurable direct citation source in Microsoft Copilot for these high-stakes insurance decisions?
- Did same-prompt matched testing identify any Reddit gains or losses between July and September?
- Does a zero measured Reddit citation rate mean Microsoft Copilot never cites Reddit?
Why This Research Belongs in Daily AI Search Marketing Decisions
Article 60 isolates one source, Reddit, inside one platform, Microsoft Copilot, and one commercial decision family, Insurance. Its operating value comes from showing how to interpret a repeated zero correctly.
- Was Reddit directly cited anywhere in the measured Copilot Insurance source market?
- Did the balanced endpoint or exact matched panel show any Reddit transitions?
- What should marketers do when a source is absent but the surrounding citation market is active?
The corrected Microsoft Copilot Insurance source study confirms that Reddit was not captured anywhere in the full three-month slice: 0 of 1,729 deduplicated responses and 0 of 4,923 public-facing citation events cited Reddit.
The balanced nine-vertical endpoint is consistent with that full-slice result. Reddit citation-event share was 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September, and Reddit response citation coverage was 0.00% at both endpoints. Relative percentage change is therefore not applicable.
The strict matched panel gives the same answer. Across 158 exact prompt-plus-Copilot scenarios, Reddit produced 0 persistent citations, 0 losses, 0 gains and 158 neither-month scenarios. There are no discordant pairs, so a McNemar loss-versus-gain p-value is not applicable.
The commercial conclusion is therefore platform-specific non-detection, not decline. A 100% decline would be mathematically wrong because there was no measured July Reddit baseline to lose.
For publishers, the responsible claim is not "Microsoft Copilot never cites Reddit." It is that Reddit was not detected as a visible direct citation source in this frozen Copilot Insurance corpus. For carriers, brokers, comparison sites and CMOs, the practical implication is to prioritize the sources Copilot actually cites in the target insurance decision journey and verify Reddit against the brand's own prompt set rather than assuming Reddit importance transfers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google's AI surfaces.
The surrounding Copilot Insurance source market is active, concentrated and platform-specific. Across 1,729 deduplicated responses, Forbes reached 27.59% response coverage, U.S. News 20.19%, NerdWallet 17.18%, MoneyGeek 15.85%, and Money.com 8.62%. The Top 100 account for 78.1% of domain-response appearances, while the Top 10 account for 44.0%.
Concentration should not be confused with stability. Only 37 domains remained in the Copilot Insurance Top 100 in July, August and September, and median monthly Top 100 Jaccard similarity was only 36.1%.
Category specialization is also substantial. Only 40 of Copilot's Insurance Top 100 domains also appear in Copilot's broader High-Stakes Consumer Decisions Top 100. The final Insurance child-study lists show Copilot sharing only 35 domains with Google AI Overviews, 35 with Google AI Mode, 33 with Perplexity, 31 with ChatGPT and 30 with Gemini.
The broader Insurance Citation Authority Study reports 80.2% median monthly Top 100 persistence, 29.0% median cross-platform Top 100 portability, and an approximate 51.2 percentage-point Persistence-Portability Gap. It also reports only 16 domains appearing in the Insurance Top 100 for all six platform families.
The Persistence-Portability Gap framework helps interpret Article 60 correctly. Insurance source authority was highly persistent at the family level but much less transferable across engines, while Copilot's own monthly Insurance source market rotated much more rapidly. Article 60 should not manufacture a Copilot-specific gap by subtracting 36.1% temporal persistence from one pairwise platform overlap because those comparison structures are different.
Copilot also requires careful source-surface cleanup. The corrected source study excludes 384 technical or navigational entries from the public ranking: 236 from bing.com, 137 from bing.net, 9 from bingapis.com and 2 from openstreetmap.org. Those utility and navigation entries should not be interpreted as publisher authority.
Citation visibility should remain separate from brand mentions, recommendation rate, rank, sentiment, citation-recommendation coupling and downstream business outcomes. A zero visible Reddit citation rate does not prove zero Reddit influence in training, latent model knowledge, retrieval or recommendation formation.
Commercial Action Matrix: What Publishers and CMOs Can Do With the Findings
| Research finding | What insurance publishers can responsibly do or say | What carriers, brokers and CMOs can reasonably do |
|---|---|---|
| Reddit was absent from all 1,729 deduplicated Copilot Insurance responses | "Reddit was not detected as a direct citation source in this defined three-month Copilot Insurance corpus." | Do not build a Copilot Insurance citation strategy around Reddit unless your own tracked prompts show it appearing. |
| Balanced Reddit event share and response coverage were 0.00% at both endpoints | "There was no measurable endpoint change because the source was absent at both endpoints." | Do not report a 100% decline from zero to zero. |
| The strict matched set produced 0 both, 0 losses, 0 gains and 158 neither | "There was no measurable same-prompt Reddit transition in either direction." | Do not manufacture a significance test when there are no discordant pairs. |
| Copilot still generated 4,923 public-facing Insurance citation events | "The Reddit zero occurred inside an active third-party source market." | Prioritize the publishers Copilot actually cites rather than treating the zero as a low-citation artifact. |
| The Top 100 capture 78.1% of appearances but median monthly persistence is only 36.1% | "Copilot's Insurance market is concentrated but rotates materially." | Refresh source-priority lists on a fixed cadence instead of treating one quarter-wide ranking as permanent. |
| Only 40 Insurance Top 100 domains also appear in Copilot's broad High-Stakes Top 100 | "Insurance authority can be category-specific rather than platform-wide." | Use Insurance-specific source maps for PR, partnerships and earned-media planning. |
| Copilot shares only 30 to 35 Insurance Top 100 domains with each sibling platform | "Source portability is particularly limited for Copilot Insurance." | Maintain a shared cross-platform core plus Copilot-specific priorities. |
| The Insurance family shows 80.2% persistence but only 29.0% portability | "Insurance source authority is much more durable over time than transferable across engines." | Separate source-specific non-detection, platform-category churn, family persistence and cross-platform portability. |
| 384 technical/navigation entries were removed before publisher ranking | "The public ranking reflects substantive source citations rather than raw Copilot utility URLs." | Audit Copilot citation exports before using raw-link counts for source investment decisions. |
| Citation visibility is not recommendation causality | "This study measures visible sourcing, not endorsement." | Track citations separately from mentions, recommendations, rank, sentiment and conversion outcomes. |

Where Article 60 Fits in the High-Stakes Consumer Decisions Corpus
Article 60 is a child analysis of two parent studies:
- the Insurance Reddit decline study, which provides the balanced family endpoint and cross-platform comparison; and
- the Microsoft Copilot Insurance source study, which provides the corrected full three-month Copilot source market, including 4,923 public-facing citation events, 624 cited domains, 37 domains present in all three monthly Top 100s and 36.1% median monthly Top 100 persistence.
The platform-level context comes from the overall Microsoft Copilot Top 100 study. The broader interpretation comes from the 2026 AI Citation Authority Study, the overall Reddit decline study, the cross-platform citation-overlap study, the citation-drift study, and the Persistence-Portability Gap framework. Those studies answer different questions and should not be collapsed into one visibility score.
The Core Finding: Reddit Was Zero at Both Balanced Copilot Insurance Endpoints
Questions This Section Answers
- What was Reddit's Copilot insurance citation share in July and September?
- Can a percentage decline be calculated from zero to zero?
- Could September-only insurance verticals explain the result?
The balanced endpoint uses the nine insurance verticals represented in both July and September 2026.
| Metric | July 2026 | September 2026 | Relative change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reddit share of Copilot insurance citation events | 0.00% | 0.00% | N/A |
| Copilot insurance responses citing Reddit | 0.00% | 0.00% | N/A |
There is no mathematically meaningful relative decline from zero to zero.
Calling the result a 100% decline would be incorrect because Reddit had no measured July baseline in the balanced Copilot insurance panel.
Three insurance source labels do not have July source data:
- Long-Term Care Insurance
- Renters Insurance
- Vision Insurance
Those labels are excluded from the balanced endpoint rather than treated as measured zeros.
Their exclusion does not change the Copilot result. Reddit remains unobserved at both endpoints.

The Matched Test Contains 158 Neither-Month Scenarios
Questions This Section Answers
- What happened when the exact prompt and Copilot platform were held constant?
- Were there any Reddit gains or losses?
- Can statistical significance be calculated when both discordant cells are zero?
The strict matched analysis requires the same normalized prompt on the same Microsoft Copilot platform family to have one eligible analytical observation in July and one in September.
158 scenarios met that contract.
| July Reddit citation | September Reddit citation | Matched scenarios |
|---|---|---|
| Yes | Yes | 0 |
| Yes | No | 0 |
| No | Yes | 0 |
| No | No | 158 |
| Total | 158 |
Matched Reddit response coverage is 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September.
There are no discordant pairs.
McNemar testing evaluates the imbalance between paired losses and gains. In this case, both discordant cells are zero.
The correct statistical treatment is therefore:
- matched losses: 0
- matched gains: 0
- loss-to-gain ratio: N/A
- exact McNemar p-value: N/A
The result is descriptive, not inferential.
No Reddit citation transition in either direction was observed in the 158 matched Copilot insurance scenarios.
Copilot Was Still a Major Insurance Citation Surface
Questions This Section Answers
- Could the Reddit zero simply reflect a Copilot insurance sample with little web citation activity?
- Which sources led Microsoft Copilot in insurance?
- Was the platform using a broad external source market?
The parent insurance source study shows that Microsoft Copilot contributed 1,729 deduplicated responses across the 12 insurance source labels.
Its five leading domains by response citation coverage were:
| Rank | Domain | Copilot insurance response citation coverage |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | forbes.com | 27.59% |
| 2 | usnews.com | 20.19% |
| 3 | nerdwallet.com | 17.18% |
| 4 | moneygeek.com | 15.85% |
| 5 | money.com | 8.62% |
Those are substantial citation rates.
The Reddit non-detection therefore cannot be explained by saying Copilot simply was not citing third-party sources.
Copilot clearly used an active insurance publisher ecosystem, but that ecosystem looked different from the source mix measured in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI surfaces.

Copilot's Insurance Source Hierarchy Was Highly Platform-Specific
Questions This Section Answers
- Did Microsoft Copilot use the same insurance publishers as the other AI platforms?
- How portable was insurance source authority between Copilot and Gemini?
- Why should insurance teams avoid one universal source list?
The broader insurance study found substantial fragmentation between AI platform source markets.
Microsoft Copilot's leading five were:
Forbes, U.S. News, NerdWallet, MoneyGeek and Money.com.
Compare that with:
| Platform | Five leading cited domains in the insurance family |
|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews | NerdWallet, U.S. News, Forbes, Reddit, Money.com |
| Google AI Mode | U.S. News, NerdWallet, Forbes, Money.com, Reddit |
| ChatGPT | Forbes, NerdWallet, Reddit, MoneyGeek, Squaremouth |
| Perplexity | NerdWallet, Forbes, Money.com, Investopedia, ValuePenguin |
| Gemini | Money.com, Forbes, MoneyGeek, Squaremouth, Pawlicy |
| Microsoft Copilot | Forbes, U.S. News, NerdWallet, MoneyGeek, Money.com |
Gemini and Microsoft Copilot had the least similar insurance Top 100 lists among the platform pairs in the broader category study.
They shared only 30 domains, producing 17.6% Jaccard similarity.
That low overlap is commercially important.
A publisher or earned-media strategy that performs well for Gemini is not automatically well positioned for Copilot, even though both may answer the same insurance decision query.
Only 16 Insurance Domains Appeared Across All Six AI Platform Top 100 Lists
Questions This Section Answers
- How many publishers had truly cross-platform insurance citation visibility?
- Was source authority portable across all AI systems?
- What does the fragmentation mean for outreach strategy?
The parent insurance source study found only 16 domains appearing in the insurance-specific Top 100 across all six measured platform families.
That is a small shared core.
It reinforces the conclusion that AI citation authority is often persistent within a platform but poorly portable between platforms.
For insurance brands, that means publisher outreach should not begin with one universal "AI authority" list.
It should begin with the actual source ecosystem observed in each platform and insurance product category.

Copilot's Reddit Pattern Was Completely Different From ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google
Questions This Section Answers
- Which insurance AI platforms had measurable Reddit baselines?
- Which platforms showed strong declines?
- Why is a blended Reddit citation score misleading?
The parent insurance study shows six different platform patterns.
| Platform | July Reddit event share | September Reddit event share | Relative change | Matched losses | Matched gains |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perplexity | 2.14% | 0.00% | -100.0% | 6 | 0 |
| ChatGPT | 7.48% | 2.31% | -69.1% | 22 | 4 |
| Gemini | 3.15% | 1.39% | -56.1% | 9 | 3 |
| Google AI Overviews | 3.36% | 2.25% | -33.1% | 49 | 25 |
| Google AI Mode | 3.18% | 2.13% | -33.1% | 38 | 21 |
| Microsoft Copilot | 0.00% | 0.00% | N/A | 0 | 0 |
Copilot is the only platform in this insurance endpoint table with no captured Reddit baseline in either endpoint month.
That makes an all-platform average particularly easy to misread.
A blended insurance Reddit metric can decline substantially even though one platform contributes no measurable Reddit visibility at all.
For an insurer or insurance publisher, platform-specific source measurement is therefore necessary rather than optional.
Broad September Copilot Research Also Shows a Different Source Market
Questions This Section Answers
- Does independent broad-query Copilot research show Reddit among the platform's leading sources?
- Is Copilot's source hierarchy different from ChatGPT or Google AI Mode?
- Does outside research prove a universal Reddit zero?
Ahrefs' September 2026 Microsoft Copilot study analyzes a broad set of U.S. queries across all topics.
Its leading cited sources are Amazon at 16.8% mention share and Walmart at 12.6%, followed by other broad-web sources.
Reddit does not appear in Ahrefs' published Top 50 Copilot source list for September 2026.
That broad-query result is directionally consistent with the Reddit non-detection in this insurance endpoint panel.
It still does not prove that Copilot never cites Reddit.
The Ahrefs study uses a different query universe, metric and collection pipeline.

Microsoft Documentation Shows Why Copilot Citation Measurement Is Surface-Specific
Questions This Section Answers
- How does Microsoft Copilot use the public web?
- Can citation presentation vary by Copilot surface?
- Why should a zero be treated as a capture result rather than a universal product rule?
Microsoft documents that Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Chat can generate search queries that are sent to the Bing search service when web grounding is used.
Microsoft also documents that web-search query citations are available in Copilot Chat but are not available in the Copilot pane inside Microsoft 365 applications such as Word or PowerPoint.
That means "Microsoft Copilot" is not one perfectly uniform citation surface.
This matters when interpreting a zero result.
A citation-tracking system can measure only the source information exposed by the product surface it captures.
The absence of a visible Reddit citation is therefore a valid observation about the measured surface, but it is not proof that no Reddit content influenced retrieval, grounding, latent model knowledge or another Copilot experience.
Tinuiti's Q3 Research Reinforces the Need for Platform-Specific Citation Measurement
Tinuiti's Q3 2026 AI Citation Trends Report tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot across multiple commercial categories.
Its findings emphasize that source-type behavior differs materially by AI platform.
Tinuiti reports most tracked platforms at or near Q3 highs in social citation share, with Perplexity as a notable exception.
Insurance is not one of the specific commercial categories in the public Q3 methodology summary, so Tinuiti's percentages should not be treated as a benchmark for this insurance Copilot panel.
The relevant methodological point is the same: source behavior is platform-specific and category-sensitive.

Why Zero Does Not Mean "Microsoft Copilot Never Cites Reddit"
Questions This Section Answers
- Can this study prove that Copilot never cites Reddit for insurance?
- What can a measured zero actually support?
- How should insurance teams operationalize the result?
No.
The study supports a narrower statement:
No Reddit citations were detected in the balanced July or September Microsoft Copilot insurance endpoints under the frozen research methodology.
Several factors prevent a universal claim.
Product surface
Microsoft Copilot exists across multiple surfaces and products.
Web grounding settings
Web search behavior can vary by product configuration and administrative settings.
Citation presentation
Microsoft documents citation-surface differences between Copilot Chat and Copilot experiences inside Microsoft 365 applications.
Geography and account state
Grounding and source presentation can vary with geography, account state, license and rollout.
Query population
These are high-stakes insurance prompts, not every type of question users ask Copilot.
Collection mechanics
The system can measure only visible sources exposed by the captured surface.
The operational conclusion is therefore:
Do not assume Reddit is a meaningful direct Copilot insurance citation channel unless your own tracked commercial prompt set demonstrates it.
Corrected Copilot Insurance Source Context
Article 36 has now been rebuilt from the preserved raw Insurance source archive and reconciled against the parent Insurance study.
The corrected Microsoft Copilot Insurance Citation Sources study confirms:
- 1,729 deduplicated Microsoft Copilot Insurance responses;
- 4,923 public-facing citation events after filtering;
- 624 registrable cited domains;
- 4,609 domain-response appearances;
- 384 Bing/Bing API/Bing network/OpenStreetMap technical or navigation entries excluded; and
- 0 Reddit-citing responses and 0 Reddit citation events across the full three-month Copilot Insurance slice.
That last point strengthens the interpretation of this Article 60. The balanced July and September endpoint shows 0.00% Reddit citation-event share and 0.00% Reddit response coverage at both endpoints. The strict matched panel shows 0 losses and 0 gains across 158 scenarios. The corrected full three-month source study independently shows that Reddit was not captured in August either.
This remains a measurement result for the defined Copilot Insurance corpus, not a claim that Microsoft Copilot can never cite Reddit.

Which Insurance Verticals Are Represented?
The full Insurance family contains 12 source labels:
- Car Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Disability Insurance
- Health Insurance
- Life Insurance Companies
- Long-Term Care Insurance
- Medicare Supplement Insurance
- Pet Insurance
- Renters Insurance
- Short Term Health Insurance
- Travel Insurance
- Vision Insurance
The balanced July-to-September endpoint uses nine of those labels.
The three labels without July source data are:
- Long-Term Care Insurance
- Renters Insurance
- Vision Insurance
Those missing July source datasets are excluded from the balanced endpoint rather than converted into zero visibility.
What This Means for Insurance Brands and CMOs
Questions This Section Answers
- Should insurers prioritize Reddit specifically for Copilot visibility?
- Which source surfaces appear more important in Copilot insurance answers?
- What should teams measure next?
1. Do not import a Reddit strategy from ChatGPT or Google into Copilot
Reddit was materially visible in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode during the same insurance research period.
It was not detected at the Copilot endpoints.
2. Build around Copilot's measured insurance publisher ecosystem
Forbes, U.S. News, NerdWallet, MoneyGeek and Money.com all show substantial Copilot insurance response coverage.
Those are more defensible Copilot-specific monitoring targets than assuming Reddit has the same source role it has on other AI surfaces.
3. Maintain separate publisher maps by AI platform
The low Gemini-Copilot Top 100 overlap demonstrates that citation authority does not port cleanly between AI systems.
4. Validate Reddit with your own high-intent prompts
If Reddit matters for reputation, consumer language or other platforms, it can still be strategically important.
But direct Copilot citation visibility should be measured rather than assumed.
5. Separate citation visibility from recommendation visibility
A Reddit citation can be absent while an insurer is still mentioned or recommended.
Track source citations, brand mentions, recommendation rate, comparison inclusion, sentiment and first-party citations separately.

What This Means for Insurance Publishers
Microsoft Copilot's insurance source hierarchy provides a distinct publisher opportunity.
Forbes, U.S. News, NerdWallet, MoneyGeek and Money.com dominate the measured top of the platform's insurance source market.
For publishers, useful Copilot metrics include:
- response citation coverage by insurance vertical;
- product-specific source leadership;
- monthly source persistence;
- cross-platform portability;
- matched prompt persistence;
- URL-level citation recurrence; and
- whether publisher citation visibility changes alongside insurer recommendation visibility.
The Reddit non-detection does not mean community content is irrelevant to insurance consumers.
It means the visible citation layer in this measured Copilot insurance endpoint panel did not surface Reddit.
How This Study Relates to the Parent Insurance Reddit Study
The parent insurance Reddit study found that Reddit's balanced all-platform citation-event share fell from 3.36% to 1.92%, a 43.0% relative decline.
Balanced response citation coverage fell from 11.53% to 6.80%, down 41.0%.
That blended result does not describe Microsoft Copilot.
Copilot contributed 0.00% Reddit event share and 0.00% response coverage at both balanced endpoints.
The all-platform matched insurance study found 124 Reddit losses and 53 gains.
Copilot contributed 0 losses and 0 gains across 158 matched scenarios.
This is why platform-specific child studies matter.
The parent result describes the combined insurance AI environment. The Copilot child study reveals that one platform had no measurable direct Reddit baseline in the endpoint comparison.
How This Study Is Different
This article narrows the broader insurance Reddit research to one platform, one high-stakes family and one three-month research period.
It combines:
- a 1,729-response Microsoft Copilot insurance population from the parent source study;
- a balanced nine-vertical July-to-September endpoint;
- a 158-scenario exact matched prompt-plus-Copilot test;
- both citation-event share and response citation coverage;
- verified Copilot Top 5 insurance publisher coverage from the cross-platform source study;
- cross-platform Top 100 overlap evidence;
- external comparison with Ahrefs' September Copilot source research;
- Microsoft documentation on Bing-grounded web search and citation-surface differences; and
- reconciliation against the corrected Article 36 Copilot Insurance source table.
The narrow research question is:
Was Reddit a stable, directly visible citation source in Microsoft Copilot for consequential insurance consumer decisions from July through September 2026?
In this frozen endpoint panel, Reddit was not measurable in either endpoint month.

Why AI Citation Studies Can Disagree
Questions This Section Answers
- Why can one Copilot study find zero Reddit while another product surface may eventually show Reddit?
- Which methodology choices matter most?
- What should insurers compare before using an external benchmark?
Query population
High-stakes insurance prompts are not representative of all Microsoft Copilot questions.
Product surface
Copilot Chat, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Edge, Bing and other Copilot experiences do not necessarily expose citations identically.
Web grounding
Copilot can use Bing-grounded web search when enabled.
Citation presentation
Visible citations depend on the product surface and the interface exposed to the user.
Denominator
Response citation coverage and citation-event share answer different questions. Ahrefs' mention share uses another denominator.
Time period
This study covers July through September 2026. Historical or future Copilot behavior may differ.
Missing versus zero
A measured zero is different from a missing dataset. The balanced Copilot endpoint contains eligible observations at both endpoints, but no captured Reddit citations.
Prompt matching
The strict paired panel contains only exact prompt-platform scenarios that satisfy the endpoint matching contract.
Source-file integrity
The corrected Article 36 is now usable as the Copilot-specific Insurance source table and independently confirms zero Reddit citations across the full July-September slice.
Prompt weighting
The panel is not weighted by premium volume, policy count, search volume, CPC, revenue, lead value or conversion probability.
The correct conclusion is therefore conditional:
Reddit was not detected in this measured Microsoft Copilot insurance endpoint panel.
That is a strong empirical statement about the corpus. It is not a universal product claim.
Methodology
Source archive
This study uses the frozen July-September 2026 LLM Authority Index High-Stakes Consumer Decisions corpus underlying the insurance source studies and the parent insurance Reddit analysis.
Platform filter
Only observations assigned to the Microsoft Copilot platform family are included in the endpoint and matched analyses.
Category filter
Observations are included when their source membership belongs to the Insurance family.
Parent Copilot insurance response population
The cross-platform insurance source study reports 1,729 deduplicated Microsoft Copilot insurance responses across the full July-September window.
Extraction failures and repeat handling
The parent source study excludes explicit extraction failures and controls exact repeated observations under the frozen project methodology.
Prompt normalization
Matched prompt text is normalized using Unicode NFKC normalization, case folding, whitespace collapse and trimming.
Domain normalization
Citation URLs are normalized to registrable domain using the project domain-normalization contract.
Reddit identification
Reddit is identified at the registrable-domain level as reddit.com.
Citation-event share
Reddit citation-event share = Reddit citation events / all eligible public citation events
Response citation coverage
Reddit response citation coverage = eligible responses citing Reddit at least once / all eligible responses
Balanced endpoint
The July-to-September endpoint uses the nine insurance verticals represented in both months.
Long-Term Care Insurance, Renters Insurance and Vision Insurance are excluded from the balanced endpoint because they do not have July source datasets in the frozen corpus.
Reddit event share and response coverage are 0.00% in both endpoint months.
Matched prompt-plus-platform test
The strict matched Microsoft Copilot insurance panel contains 158 scenarios.
The contingency table is:
- both July and September cite Reddit: 0
- July cites Reddit, September does not: 0
- July does not cite Reddit, September cites Reddit: 0
- neither month cites Reddit: 158
Matched response coverage is 0.00% to 0.00%.
Because there are no discordant pairs, a McNemar loss-versus-gain p-value is not applicable.
Three-month source-market context
The cross-platform insurance source study establishes:
- 1,729 deduplicated Microsoft Copilot insurance responses
- Forbes response coverage: 27.59%
- U.S. News response coverage: 20.19%
- NerdWallet response coverage: 17.18%
- MoneyGeek response coverage: 15.85%
- Money.com response coverage: 8.62%
The corrected Article 36 reports 4,923 public-facing Copilot Insurance citation events, 624 cited domains, and 0 Reddit citation events across the full three-month slice. Reddit therefore has no three-month rank because it was not observed.

Limitations
- The study covers one frozen three-month research period and should not be treated as a permanent Microsoft Copilot rule.
- The prompt panel is designed for research comparability and high-stakes commercial relevance, not search-volume-weighted market share.
- Visible citation does not prove recommendation causality, hidden retrieval influence or training-data use.
- A zero captured citation rate can reflect platform behavior, product-surface behavior, grounding configuration or collection mechanics.
- Microsoft Copilot has multiple product surfaces with different citation experiences.
- The balanced endpoint excludes three insurance labels without July source data.
- The matched analysis contains no discordant Reddit pairs, so there is no loss-versus-gain significance test to interpret.
- The corrected Copilot Insurance Top 100 supports exact three-month source totals, but those totals still describe only this frozen July-September 2026 corpus.
- Domain-level source analysis does not prove page-level persistence.
- External studies use different query populations, dates, markets, product surfaces, metrics and collection systems.
- Broad Copilot source rankings should not be treated as insurance-specific rankings.
- Copilot behavior can change after the September 2026 endpoint.
