LLM Authority Index Research | Gemini | Health and Medical | July-September 2026
Gemini uses a distinct source ecosystem when consumers ask high-stakes questions about treatment centers, fertility care, hearing aids, home health, medical alert systems, telehealth, online pharmacies, therapy, STD testing and metabolic-health services.
Across 1,819 deduplicated Gemini responses covering 14 health and medical decision verticals, GoodRx ranked #1, appearing as a cited domain in 6.21% of eligible responses. Healthline ranked #2 at 5.66%, Forbes #3 at 5.61%, NCOA.org #4 at 5.39%, and SeniorLiving.org #5 at 5.11%.
The category source map differs sharply from Gemini overall. Only 31 of the health and medical Top 100 domains also appear in Gemini's overall Top 100. GoodRx, Healthline, NCOA.org and HelpGuide.org all have substantially higher response coverage inside this health-focused slice than they do across Gemini's broader high-stakes corpus.
The health slice also shows meaningful monthly movement. GoodRx ranked #1 in July, SeniorLiving.org moved to #1 in August, and Healthline ranked #1 in September. Only 45 domains remained in the monthly Top 100 in all three months.
The capture audit matters for interpretation. The deduplicated slice contains 3,368 captured citation entries before public filtering. The public ranking removes 69 myactivity.google.com technical entries and 144 citation records without a usable URL, leaving 3,155 substantive citation events.
Answer Capsule
GoodRx was the most frequently cited website in Gemini for high-stakes health and medical consumer decisions in the July-September 2026 LLMAI panel. It appeared in 113 of 1,819 eligible Gemini responses, or 6.21%. Healthline followed at 5.66%, Forbes at 5.61%, NCOA.org at 5.39%, and SeniorLiving.org at 5.11%. The result is category-specific: only 31 of this health Top 100 also appear in Gemini's overall Top 100, and several specialist health domains show large category lift.
Key Findings
- GoodRx ranked #1 overall at 6.21% response citation coverage.
- Healthline ranked #2 at 5.66%, followed by Forbes at 5.61%, NCOA.org at 5.39%, and SeniorLiving.org at 5.11%.
- The 1,819-response denominator reproduces the Gemini health-platform slice used in the parent Health and Medical category study.
- Gemini cited 743 distinct registrable domains in the public health ranking, producing 3,026 domain-response appearances and 3,155 substantive citation events.
- The Top 10 domains account for 24.72% of response-level domain appearances; the Top 100 account for 63.95%.
- Only 31 of the health and medical Top 100 also appear in Gemini's overall Top 100, a Jaccard similarity of 18.3%.

Questions This Study Answers
- Which websites dominate Gemini citations for high-stakes Health and Medical decisions, and how does that source hierarchy change by vertical?
- How persistent is Gemini's Health and Medical source market over time, and how portable is that visibility to other AI platforms?
- What should health publishers, provider brands, healthcare marketers and CMOs measure before allocating resources to Gemini-focused content, PR, partnerships or earned media?
Why This Research Belongs in Daily AI Search Marketing Decisions
Article 41 sits at the intersection of two commercially useful views of the same source market:
- the Gemini platform view, which asks which sources recur across high-stakes consumer decisions on Gemini; and
- the Health and Medical decision-family view, which asks which sources recur across six AI platform families for one high-stakes category.
For publishers and specialist health sites, that intersection supports a more precise claim than saying a domain is simply "visible in Gemini." A source can document whether it is cited specifically for health and medical consumer decisions, whether that visibility persists over time, and whether its source presence is broad across multiple health verticals or concentrated in one specialist decision journey.
For healthcare brands, providers, medical-device companies, senior-care businesses, CMOs, PR teams and agencies, the operating question is:
Which sources are already present around the exact health decisions our customers ask Gemini to help them make?
Six findings matter for daily planning:
- the Top 100 account for 63.95% of domain-response appearances in this Gemini Health and Medical slice;
- the Top 10 account for 24.72%, leaving a substantial specialist long tail;
- only 31 domains overlap between this Health and Medical Top 100 and Gemini's broader High-Stakes Top 100, an 18.3% Jaccard similarity;
- 45 domains remained in the monthly Health and Medical Top 100 in July, August and September, and the median of the three monthly Top 100 Jaccard comparisons was 39.9%;
- the final child-study Top 100 lists show Gemini sharing 54 domains with Google AI Mode, 52 with Google AI Overviews, 46 with Perplexity, 39 with ChatGPT and 33 with Microsoft Copilot; and
- 213 technical or unusable citation entries were excluded before constructing the public source leaderboard.
The parent Health and Medical Citation Authority Study provides the category-level Persistence-Portability Gap interpretation. It reports:
- 61.3% median monthly Top 100 persistence;
- 25.8% median cross-platform Top 100 portability; and
- an approximate 35.5 percentage-point Persistence-Portability Gap.
Article 41 answers a narrower Gemini-specific question. Its 39.9% median monthly Top 100 persistence should not be subtracted from one pairwise cross-platform overlap to create a Gemini-specific gap. The parent PPG uses category-level summary statistics across the broader family.
The parent family is also highly fragmented across engines. The final six Health and Medical platform studies contain 290 distinct Top 100 domains in their combined union. Only 20 domains appear in all six platform Top 100 lists, while 161 appear in only one.
The concentration result should not be confused with stability or portability. Gemini Health has a visible source head, a substantial specialist long tail, meaningful month-to-month rotation, and a source portfolio that transfers imperfectly to other AI platforms. Those are different measurements.
Citation visibility should remain separate from brand mentions, recommendation rate, ranking, sentiment, citation-recommendation coupling, clinical quality, treatment safety and downstream business outcomes. A source can be frequently cited without causing Gemini to recommend a specific provider, product, clinic or treatment, and citation frequency does not validate medical advice.
Commercial Action Matrix: What Publishers and CMOs Can Do With the Findings
| Research finding | What health publishers can responsibly say | What healthcare brands and CMOs can reasonably do |
|---|---|---|
| GoodRx, Healthline, Forbes, NCOA and SeniorLiving.org lead this Gemini health source map | "Our domain can be benchmarked against the sources most frequently cited by Gemini for this defined Health and Medical decision set." | Use category leaders as a research tier, then test relevance for the exact health vertical and prompt cluster. |
| The Top 10 account for 24.72% of domain-response appearances | "Gemini's measured health source market has a relatively diffuse head." | Avoid concentrating outreach around only a handful of large publishers. |
| The Top 100 account for 63.95% of domain-response appearances | "A ranked source universe still captures most measured source activity." | Start with the Top 100, then add vertical specialists that matter to the exact decision. |
| Only 31 domains overlap with broad Gemini's Top 100 | "Category-specific health visibility can be commercially important without broad platform-wide rank." | Use Health and Medical source maps instead of generic Gemini leaderboards. |
| 45 domains remained in the Top 100 across all three months and median monthly Jaccard was 39.9% | "A three-month aggregate should not be described as fixed or permanent." | Refresh source-priority lists on a fixed cadence and track gains, losses and rank movement. |
| Gemini shares 54 Health Top 100 domains with Google AI Mode but only 33 with Microsoft Copilot | "Source portability differs materially by platform pair." | Maintain a shared cross-platform core plus Gemini-specific and engine-specific priorities. |
| The parent category reports a 35.5-point exploratory Persistence-Portability Gap | "The broader health source portfolio is more stable over time than fully transferable across engines." | Separate the time question from the platform question when allocating content, PR, partnerships and outreach. |
| GoodRx, NCOA, HelpGuide and DoctorOnDemand over-index sharply inside health | "Specialist health authority can be understated by a broad platform leaderboard." | Preserve high-lift specialist sources even when their broad Gemini rank is modest. |
| The monthly #1 changed from GoodRx to SeniorLiving.org to Healthline | "Leadership can rotate even when several core authorities remain persistent." | Separate durable source presence from monthly rank position. |
| 69 account-activity entries and 144 unusable records were removed | "The ranking reflects substantive public-facing source citations rather than Google account infrastructure or unusable URLs." | Audit raw Gemini citation exports before using them for publisher investment decisions. |
| Citation visibility does not establish medical quality or recommendation causality | "Our content is measurably present in the visible source layer." | Measure citations, mentions, recommendations, rank, sentiment, clinical evidence and business outcomes separately. |
The daily operating model is therefore four-layered:
- Current Gemini Health core: maintain the sources that matter now, with the collection date attached.
- Vertical and prompt-cluster layer: identify which sources dominate the exact hearing-aid, medical-alert, pharmacy, online-doctor, fertility, addiction-treatment, dental, therapy or other health decision.
- Longitudinal check: monitor whether priority sources persist, decline, rotate or change rank.
- Cross-platform check: determine whether the same sources also matter in Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot.

The primary ranking metric is Response Citation Coverage: the percentage of eligible Gemini health and medical responses that cited a domain at least once. A domain counts no more than once within a response for the primary metric even if Gemini surfaced multiple pages from that site.
Medical Alert Systems has no July source file in the frozen archive. Missing source-months are treated as unavailable rather than as zero-citation observations.

Citation Concentration
Gemini's health and medical source market has a visible head, but a substantial specialist long tail.
| Ranking depth | Share of domain-response appearances | Share of substantive citation events |
|---|---|---|
| Top 10 | 24.72% | 25.23% |
| Top 25 | 38.53% | 39.05% |
| Top 50 | 51.12% | 51.57% |
| Top 100 | 63.95% | 64.41% |
The Top 100 account for 63.95% of response-level domain appearances in the health slice, versus 54.1% in Gemini overall. The health source market is therefore more concentrated at Top 100 depth, even though the identity of those domains is highly category-specific.
Health and Medical Specialization vs. Gemini Overall
Only 31 of the health and medical Top 100 domains also appear in Gemini's overall Top 100. That is 18.3% Jaccard similarity between the two Top 100 sets. A broad Gemini leaderboard therefore misses many specialist sources that become important inside health decisions.
| Domain | Health coverage | Gemini overall coverage | Approx. category lift | Gemini overall rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| goodrx.com | 6.21% | 1.53% | 4.06x | 9 |
| healthline.com | 5.66% | 1.44% | 3.93x | 11 |
| forbes.com | 5.61% | 6.43% | 0.87x | 3 |
| ncoa.org | 5.39% | 1.32% | 4.08x | 13 |
| seniorliving.org | 5.11% | 1.84% | 2.78x | 7 |
| helpguide.org | 4.01% | 0.95% | 4.22x | 18 |
| doctorondemand.com | 2.69% | 0.64% | 4.20x | 26 |
| elderlifefinancial.com | 2.31% | 0.67% | 3.45x | 23 |
| walgreens.com | 2.09% | 0.50% | 4.18x | 46 |
| doctronic.ai | 2.03% | 0.48% | 4.23x | 48 |
GoodRx, NCOA.org, HelpGuide.org, DoctorOnDemand and several telehealth or senior-care sources have far more category-specific visibility than their broad Gemini rank alone would suggest. Forbes illustrates the opposite pattern: it remains a Top 3 health source, but its response coverage is slightly lower in the health slice than across Gemini overall.

The Most-Cited Sources by Individual Health and Medical Vertical
The category-wide ranking should not be treated as a substitute for vertical-level source mapping. Specialist sites often lead individual buyer journeys.

The vertical cuts show how different the source market becomes when the consumer question narrows. SeniorLiving.org and NCOA.org dominate Medical Alert Systems. NCOA.org, SeniorLiving.org and HearingTracker dominate Hearing Aids. HelpGuide and Healthline lead Online Therapy. GoodRx leads STD Tests, while DoctorOnDemand leads Online Doctors.

Breadth vs. Specialization
Broad health-category visibility and specialist authority are different source patterns.
- GoodRx appears in 10 of the 14 source verticals and ranks #1 category-wide.
- Healthline and Forbes each appear in seven verticals, giving them broad multi-topic presence.
- MedicalNewsToday appears in six verticals despite ranking #15 category-wide.
- NCOA.org appears in only two source verticals yet ranks #4 overall because it is exceptionally strong in Hearing Aids and Medical Alert Systems.
- SafeHome.org appears in one source vertical but ranks #13 category-wide because of concentrated Medical Alert Systems visibility.
For publishers, breadth can demonstrate cross-topic visibility. For brands, specialization can be more important when the actual commercial prompt set is narrow.
Monthly Persistence and Citation Drift
The Gemini health source market changed meaningfully across the three-month window.
| Month comparison | Shared Top 100 domains | Jaccard similarity |
|---|---|---|
| July vs. August | 57 | 39.86% |
| July vs. September | 51 | 34.23% |
| August vs. September | 68 | 51.52% |
Across all three months, 45 domains remained in the Gemini health Top 100 every month. The median of the three monthly Top 100 Jaccard comparisons was 39.9%.
The leading domain also changed: GoodRx ranked #1 in July, SeniorLiving.org #1 in August, and Healthline #1 in September. NCOA.org remained comparatively stable at #4, #2 and #4. Forbes ranked #2, #5 and #5.
This movement is why a publisher or brand should not treat a single monthly source list as permanent. The more defensible interpretation is a measured source ecosystem with both persistent authorities and meaningful citation drift.
Platform Differences: Gemini's Health and Medical Source Market Is Not Interchangeable With Other AI Engines
The final Health and Medical child-study Top 100 lists show meaningful cross-platform overlap, but no other measured engine uses the same source portfolio.
| Comparison | Shared Top 100 Domains | Jaccard Similarity |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini Health vs. Google AI Mode Health | 54 | 37.0% |
| Gemini Health vs. Google AI Overviews Health | 52 | 35.1% |
| Gemini Health vs. Perplexity Health | 46 | 29.9% |
| Gemini Health vs. ChatGPT Health | 39 | 24.2% |
| Gemini Health vs. Microsoft Copilot Health | 33 | 19.8% |
Gemini is closest to the two Google AI search surfaces in this decision family. Perplexity is somewhat farther away, ChatGPT diverges more, and Microsoft Copilot is the least similar sibling Top 100.
That difference is commercially important. A source strategy optimized for Google AI search, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Copilot is not automatically a Gemini health-source strategy.
The parent Health study reports only 20 domains present in all six platform Top 100s, while 161 domains appear in only one platform's Top 100. That is a strong signal that healthcare source planning should preserve both a cross-platform core and engine-specific specialist layers.
The operating implication is to maintain three layers: a cross-platform Health and Medical core, a Gemini-specific source layer, and a vertical-specific specialist layer.

Prior Research and Why the Rankings Can Look Different
Ahrefs: broad U.S. all-topic Gemini queries
Ahrefs' September 2026 Gemini study tracks more than 3 million U.S. queries across all topics. Reddit ranks #1 at 28.5% mention share, YouTube #2 at 14.6%, Wikipedia #3 at 8.8%, Walmart #4 at 2.8%, and Forbes #5 at 2.7%. Healthline ranks #7 at 1.8%, GoodRx #16 at 1.2%, WebMD #24 at 0.9%, PMC #25 at 0.9%, and Medical News Today #41 at 0.6%. Ahrefs: The 50 Most-Cited Websites in Gemini
That is very different from Article 41, where GoodRx leads at 6.21% response citation coverage, followed by Healthline, Forbes, NCOA and SeniorLiving.org.
The difference is not a contradiction. Ahrefs measures broad all-topic mention share among the top sources, while Article 41 measures response-level domain presence inside a fixed high-stakes Health and Medical decision panel.
Machine Relations: Consumer Health leaders change with question shape
Machine Relations' September 23, 2026 Index release covers 23,280 cited domains and 16,475 observed answer runs across its six-engine system. In Consumer Health, Healthline leads the best-tools question shape at 43.2%, while UCLA Health leads the is-it-worth-it shape at 37.7%. Machine Relations Index Report, September 23, 2026
Healthcare Services is different again: OmniMD leads best-tools at 32.7%, while NIH leads is-it-worth-it at 26.2%.
Machine Relations uses a multi-engine system, a different category taxonomy, question-shape framework and denominators. Those figures should not be merged with Article 41. The useful agreement is methodological: health source leadership changes with the decision type and measurement contract.
Tinuiti: OTC health is tracked separately across Gemini and other engines
Tinuiti's Q3 2026 AI Citation Trends Report tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot across commercial categories including OTC health. It reports substantial platform and category differences in source behavior and notes that most tracked platforms are at or near Q3 highs in social citation share, with Perplexity as a notable exception. Tinuiti Q3 2026 AI Citation Trends Report
Tinuiti's OTC health prompt set is not the same as Article 41's 14-vertical Health and Medical family, so its percentages should not be imported into this ranking. The useful agreement is methodological: Gemini source behavior should be validated against the exact health category and prompt population being measured.
Studies can disagree because of:
- query selection
- health vertical mix
- commercial intent
- geography
- time window
- ranking metric
- citation-event versus response-level counting
- source-type classification
- technical-asset exclusions
- domain normalization
- platform mode and retrieval behavior
The relevant question is not which ranking is universally correct. It is which ranking matches the health decision environment and measurement contract a publisher, provider or brand actually cares about.

Why This Study Is Different
This article is differentiated by the combination of:
- a fixed high-stakes health and medical consumer-decision query population;
- 14 preserved source vertical labels;
- a three-month July-September 2026 observation window;
- 1,819 deduplicated eligible Gemini responses;
- response-level domain coverage as the primary metric;
- Public Suffix List registrable-domain normalization;
- explicit extraction-failure handling;
- exact-repeat handling across overlapping vertical exports;
- public disclosure of 69 Google account-activity exclusions and 144 unusable-URL records;
- monthly Top 100 persistence and drift analysis;
- vertical-level leaders inside the same category study; and
- direct integration with parallel Gemini overall and cross-platform health research using the same frozen corpus.
Why AI Citation Studies Can Disagree
Two Gemini citation studies can both be methodologically sound and still produce different rankings because they may use different:
- prompt populations and buyer intent;
- topic and category mixes;
- consumer Gemini surfaces, APIs or geographic contexts;
- collection dates and model/retrieval versions;
- citation extraction rules;
- URL-level versus registrable-domain normalization;
- technical-source exclusions;
- treatment of zero-citation responses and extraction failures;
- deduplication rules across overlapping exports; and
- denominators such as responses, citation events, pages or top-source mention share.
A percentage should therefore be interpreted together with its denominator, study period and source-selection contract.
What This Means for Health and Medical Publishers
Publishers can use this research to document measured Gemini source visibility without claiming clinical authority or causation. Useful evidence includes response coverage, category rank, vertical breadth, specialist leadership and month-to-month persistence.
A defensible statement is: Our domain was measurably present among the visible sources Gemini cited when consumers researched these high-stakes health and medical decisions during the study period.
Publishers should not convert the result into a claim that an advertiser, sponsorship, article placement or brand mention will cause Gemini to recommend a product or service.

What This Means for Brands and CMOs
For healthcare marketers, the useful output is not a single universal media list. It is a source map tied to the brand's real prompt universe.
A medical alert brand should care disproportionately about SeniorLiving.org, NCOA.org, SafeHome.org and ConsumerAffairs. A telehealth brand should care more about DoctorOnDemand, Healthline, GoodRx, SesameCare and Doctronic. A hearing-aid brand sees a different source hierarchy again.
The category list can identify broad publishers, while the vertical cuts identify the specialist sources that may matter most for a specific commercial decision.
Methodology
Research source
This study uses the frozen July-September 2026 LLM Authority Index High-Stakes Consumer Decisions archive used by the broader 2026 AI Citation Authority Study.
Platform filter
Only observations assigned to the Gemini platform family are included. Gemini remains separate from Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode.
Category assignment
Observations are included when their preserved source memberships belong to the Health and Medical family. The 14 source vertical labels are listed in the What We Studied section.
Exact file deduplication
Byte-identical source files were deduplicated by SHA-256 before observation processing.
Analytical anti-double-counting
Within the category-platform slice, observations were treated as exact analytical repeats when they shared the same report month, exact raw platform/source surface, normalized prompt text and exact set of original citation URLs. One analytical record was retained while preserving originating vertical memberships.
Prompt normalization
Prompt matching uses Unicode NFKC normalization, case folding, whitespace collapse and trimming. Prompt wording is otherwise preserved.
Explicit extraction failures
The raw Gemini health archive contained 4 observations explicitly marked as extraction failures. Those records were excluded from valid-response denominators rather than counted as ordinary zero-citation answers.
Domain normalization
Citation URLs were parsed to hostnames, normalized to lowercase, stripped of a leading www., and consolidated to registrable domains using Public Suffix List logic. For example, rankings.newsweek.com is reported under newsweek.com, en.wikipedia.org under wikipedia.org, and pharmacy.amazon.com under amazon.com.
Gemini capture audit and public exclusions
The deduplicated health response set contained 3,368 captured citation entries before public filtering. The public publisher ranking excludes 69 entries pointing to myactivity.google.com, an account-activity surface rather than an editorial source, and 144 citation records with no usable URL. Those 213 entries are not ranked as publisher citations. The resulting public table contains 3,155 substantive citation events.
Primary metric
Response Citation Coverage = eligible Gemini health responses citing domain d at least once / all eligible Gemini health responses. The denominator for this article is 1,819 responses. A domain counts no more than once per response for this metric.
Secondary metric
Citation events are retained as a secondary metric. A response can contain multiple citation events from the same domain even though the domain counts once for response coverage.
Monthly ranks
July, August and September Top 100 lists are calculated independently from eligible responses in each month using the same public-source rules.
Vertical views
A deduplicated response can retain more than one originating source membership when overlapping exports contain the same exact observation. Vertical tables are therefore descriptive source views and are not assumed to be statistically independent.
Missing July data
Medical Alert Systems has no July source file because that dataset was not produced in July. Missing source-months are treated as unavailable rather than as zero-citation observations.
Jaccard overlap
Top 100 Jaccard similarity is calculated as shared Top 100 domains / unique domains across the two Top 100 lists.
No causal interpretation
A visible citation establishes an observed source relationship. It does not prove that the citation caused Gemini to mention, rank, recommend or convert a consumer for any company, treatment or service.

Limitations
- The corpus measures a fixed commercial high-stakes prompt panel, not all health information seeking or all Gemini use.
- Health and medical source labels are commercial research groupings and should not be interpreted as a representative clinical sample.
- Missing source-months are not imputed. Medical Alert Systems has no July source file.
- Citation extraction can miss visible sources or capture technical artifacts. The public audit removes known account-activity entries and unusable URL records, but no extraction system is perfect.
- Response citation coverage measures visible source presence, not source quality, medical accuracy, consumer safety, authority in a clinical sense or causal influence on recommendations.
- Vertical source memberships can overlap because exact repeated observations are retained once for aggregate analysis while preserving their originating labels.
- Monthly movement can reflect changes in prompts, retrieval, indexing, model behavior, available source pages or the measured sample rather than a single causal factor.
Commercial Disclosure
LLM Authority Index publishes independent citation measurement and related AI-search research. Rankings in this study are based on the frozen source corpus and stated methodology. No company can purchase a ranking, recommendation, score or position in this research table. Commercial relationships, advertising or related services do not change the ranking calculation.
