LLM Authority Index Research | High-Stakes Consumer Decisions | Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending | Microsoft Copilot | July-September 2026
Reddit was not captured as a direct citation source in the balanced Microsoft Copilot financial panel at either the July or September 2026 endpoint.
On the same 13 credit, debt, banking and lending verticals measured at both endpoints, Reddit's citation-event share was 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September. Reddit response citation coverage was also 0.00% at both endpoints.
The strict matched analysis produced the same result. Across 177 exact prompt-plus-Copilot scenarios observed in both July and September, 0 scenarios cited Reddit in both months, 0 lost Reddit, 0 gained Reddit and all 177 cited Reddit in neither endpoint month.
Because there are no discordant matched pairs, there is no meaningful McNemar loss-versus-gain test to run. The correct statistical result is not applicable, not evidence that Reddit "declined by 100%" or that Reddit is categorically absent from Microsoft Copilot.
This distinction matters.
The Copilot financial source market itself was large. Across the related three-month source study, Microsoft Copilot produced 2,379 eligible deduplicated responses, 7,042 public-facing citation events, 767 registrable cited domains and 6,427 domain-response appearances. NerdWallet, Forbes, Bankrate, CNBC and U.S. News led the financial citation market.
Reddit did not appear in the published three-month Copilot financial Top 100. The #100 domain in that ranking appeared in seven responses, equal to 0.29% response citation coverage.
The defensible conclusion is therefore narrow but commercially important:
In this frozen high-stakes financial Copilot corpus, Reddit was not detected as a direct citation source at either endpoint, and it was not a material three-month Top 100 source. That is a platform-specific capture result, not proof that Microsoft Copilot never cites Reddit.
Important: This study measures visible citations in a defined research panel. Microsoft Copilot citation behavior can vary by product surface, grounding configuration, geography, account state, model version and collection method. A zero in this dataset should not be generalized into a universal statement about all Copilot experiences.

Answer Capsule
How did Reddit citations change in Microsoft Copilot for high-stakes credit, debt, banking and lending decisions from July to September 2026? No measurable endpoint change was captured because Reddit citation-event share and response citation coverage were both 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September. The strict matched panel contained 177 scenarios, and every one was Reddit-negative at both endpoints, producing 0 losses and 0 gains. Reddit also did not appear in the published three-month Copilot financial Top 100. The finding is best interpreted as non-detection in this defined Copilot financial corpus, not as evidence that Copilot never cites Reddit.
Key Findings
- Balanced Reddit citation-event share: 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September.
- Balanced Reddit response citation coverage: 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September.
- Relative change is not applicable because both endpoints are zero.
- The strict matched panel contains 177 exact prompt-plus-Copilot scenarios.
- Matched Reddit outcomes: 0 both, 0 losses, 0 gains, 177 neither.
- Matched Reddit response coverage: 0.00% to 0.00%.
- An exact McNemar test is not applicable because there are no discordant pairs.
- The three-month Microsoft Copilot financial source study contains 2,379 eligible responses.
- The cleaned source market contains 7,042 public-facing citation events, 767 registrable domains and 6,427 domain-response appearances.
- Reddit does not appear in the published three-month Copilot financial Top 100.
- The #100 domain in that ranking appeared in 7 responses, equal to 0.29% response coverage.
- The Copilot financial source market is led by NerdWallet at 23.33%, Forbes at 21.77%, Bankrate at 20.85%, CNBC at 20.13% and U.S. News at 14.80%.
- 705 technical or navigational citation entries were excluded from the public publisher ranking, including Bing search, thumbnail, favicon/API and OpenStreetMap infrastructure.
- The excluded technical layer represented about 9.1% of captured citation entries in the deduplicated Copilot financial slice.
- The non-detection result is consistent with other research showing that social citation behavior can be unusually low in Microsoft Copilot, but independent studies use different prompts, periods, metrics and capture methods.
- Current Ahrefs broad-query research likewise does not list Reddit in its September 2026 Copilot Top 50, although that all-topic dataset is not directly comparable to this financial panel.

Questions This Study Answers
- Was Reddit a measurable direct citation source in Microsoft Copilot for these high-stakes financial decisions?
- Did same-prompt matched testing find any Reddit losses or gains between July and September?
- Does zero measured Reddit visibility mean Microsoft Copilot never cites Reddit?
Why This Research Belongs in Daily AI Search Marketing Decisions
Article 57 isolates one source, Reddit, inside one platform, Microsoft Copilot, and one commercial decision family, Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending. Its operating value comes from showing how to interpret a zero result correctly.
- Was Reddit directly cited in this Copilot financial panel?
- Did the same prompts show any Reddit losses or gains over time?
- What should marketers do when a source is not detected but the surrounding citation market is large?
The balanced endpoint is simple: Reddit citation-event share was 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September, and Reddit response citation coverage was 0.00% at both endpoints. A relative percentage change is therefore not applicable.
The strict matched analysis reinforces the same result. Across 177 exact prompt-plus-Copilot scenarios, Reddit produced 0 persistent citations, 0 losses, 0 gains and 177 neither-month scenarios. There are no discordant pairs, so a McNemar loss-versus-gain p-value is not applicable.
That does not mean the Copilot financial source market was empty or citation-poor. The related Microsoft Copilot Credit source study contains 2,379 eligible responses, 7,042 public-facing citation events, 767 registrable cited domains and 6,427 domain-response appearances. Reddit simply was not a material visible source in the captured financial citation market.
For publishers, the responsible statement is not "Copilot never cites Reddit." It is that Reddit was not detected as a direct citation source in this frozen financial panel. For brands and CMOs, the practical implication is to prioritize the sources Copilot actually cites in the target decision journey and validate Reddit with the brand's own prompt set rather than assuming Reddit importance transfers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Google or Perplexity.
The surrounding Copilot financial source market is concentrated but only moderately persistent. The Top 100 account for 81.3% of domain-response appearances, the Top 25 account for 64.4%, yet only 46 domains remained in all three monthly Top 100s and median monthly Top 100 Jaccard similarity was only 39.9%.
Only 47 financial Top 100 domains also appear in Copilot's broader High-Stakes Consumer Decisions Top 100. The final Credit child-study Top 100 lists show Copilot sharing 48 domains with ChatGPT, 47 with Perplexity, 44 with Google AI Mode, 43 with Google AI Overviews and 36 with Gemini. That is why a broad Copilot leaderboard is not a substitute for a category-specific source map.
The broader Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending Citation Authority Study reports 77.0% median monthly Top 100 persistence, 44.9% median cross-platform Top 100 portability, and an approximate 32.1 percentage-point Persistence-Portability Gap. It also reports 26 domains appearing in all six final platform Top 100s from 222 distinct domains in the six-platform union.
The Persistence-Portability Gap framework helps interpret Article 57 correctly. The category-level financial source layer is more persistent over time than universally portable across engines, while Copilot's own financial source market rotates more quickly. Article 57 should not create a Copilot-specific gap by subtracting 39.9% temporal persistence from a single pairwise platform overlap because those comparison structures are different.
Copilot also requires stricter source-surface hygiene than a simple raw-link count suggests. The public publisher ranking excludes 705 technical or navigational entries: 451 from bing.com, 237 from bing.net, 14 from bingapis.com and 3 from openstreetmap.org. Those entries represent about 9.1% of captured citation entries before filtering.
Citation visibility should remain separate from brand mentions, recommendation rate, rank, sentiment, citation-recommendation coupling and downstream business outcomes. A zero Reddit citation rate does not prove zero Reddit influence in training, latent model knowledge or recommendation formation.
Commercial Action Matrix: What Publishers and CMOs Can Do With the Findings
| Research finding | What financial publishers can responsibly do or say | What brands and CMOs can reasonably do |
|---|---|---|
| Reddit was 0.00% at both balanced endpoints | "Reddit was not detected as a direct citation source in this defined Copilot financial panel." | Do not build a Copilot citation strategy around Reddit unless your own prompts show it appearing. |
| The matched panel produced 0 both, 0 losses, 0 gains and 177 neither | "There was no measurable Reddit transition in either direction." | Do not report a 100% decline or manufacture a significance test when there are no discordant pairs. |
| Reddit is absent from the three-month Copilot financial Top 100 | "Reddit was not a material visible source in this captured financial market." | Prioritize the sources Copilot actually cites for the target product and prompt cluster. |
| The Top 100 capture 81.3% of appearances | "Copilot's measured financial source market is highly concentrated." | Start with the recurring high-coverage source core before expanding into the long tail. |
| Only 46 domains persisted in all three monthly Top 100s and median monthly persistence is 39.9% | "A concentrated Copilot market can still rotate materially over time." | Refresh source-priority lists on a fixed cadence instead of treating one quarter-wide ranking as permanent. |
| Only 47 financial Top 100 domains also appear in Copilot's broad Top 100 | "Category-specific authority can differ materially from broad Copilot authority." | Use Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending source maps for PR, partnerships and earned-media planning. |
| Copilot shares 48 Credit Top 100 domains with ChatGPT but only 36 with Gemini | "Source portability varies materially by engine pair." | Maintain a shared cross-platform core plus Copilot-specific priorities. |
| 705 technical/navigation entries were removed before publisher ranking | "The ranking is based on filtered public-facing source citations, not raw utility URLs." | Audit Copilot citation exports before using raw-link counts for source investment decisions. |
| The Credit family shows 77.0% persistence but 44.9% portability | "The broader source portfolio is more durable over time than universally transferable across engines." | Separate source-specific non-detection, platform-category churn, family persistence and cross-platform portability. |
| Citation visibility is not recommendation causality | "This study measures visible sourcing, not endorsement." | Track citations separately from brand mentions, recommendations, rank, sentiment and conversion outcomes. |

Where Article 57 Fits in the High-Stakes Consumer Decisions Corpus
This article is a child analysis of two parent studies:
- the Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending Reddit decline study, which provides the balanced family endpoint and cross-platform comparison; and
- the Microsoft Copilot Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending source study, which provides the surrounding three-month source market, including the 81.3% Top 100 concentration, 46 domains present in all three monthly Top 100s and 39.9% median monthly Top 100 persistence.
The platform-level context comes from the overall Microsoft Copilot Top 100 study. The broader interpretation comes from the 2026 AI Citation Authority Study, the overall Reddit decline study, the cross-platform citation-overlap study, the citation-drift study, and the Persistence-Portability Gap framework. Those studies answer different questions and should not be collapsed into one visibility score.
The Core Finding: Reddit Was Zero at Both Balanced Endpoints
Questions This Section Answers
- What was Reddit's Copilot citation share in July and September?
- Can a percentage decline be calculated from zero to zero?
- Could September-only financial verticals explain the result?
The primary endpoint uses the 13 Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending verticals represented in both July and September 2026.
| Metric | July 2026 | September 2026 | Relative change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reddit share of Copilot citation events | 0.00% | 0.00% | N/A |
| Copilot responses citing Reddit | 0.00% | 0.00% | N/A |
There is no mathematically meaningful percentage decline from zero to zero.
Calling the result a "100% decline" would be incorrect because there was no measured July Reddit baseline to lose.
The balanced design also removes three September-only financial labels from the endpoint comparison. Home Equity Loans, Savings Account and Student Loan Refinance are not present in the July source corpus, so they are excluded from the balanced July-to-September test.
Their exclusion does not change the result. Reddit remains unobserved at both balanced endpoints.

The Matched Test Contains 177 Neither-Month Scenarios
Questions This Section Answers
- What happened when the exact prompt and Copilot platform were held constant?
- Were there any Reddit losses or gains?
- Can statistical significance be calculated when nothing changes?
The strict matched analysis requires the same normalized prompt on the same Microsoft Copilot surface to have one eligible analytical observation in July and one in September.
177 scenarios met the matching contract.
| July Reddit citation | September Reddit citation | Matched scenarios |
|---|---|---|
| Yes | Yes | 0 |
| Yes | No | 0 |
| No | Yes | 0 |
| No | No | 177 |
| Total | 177 |
Matched Reddit response coverage is 0.00% in July and 0.00% in September.
There are no discordant pairs.
McNemar testing is designed to evaluate the imbalance between discordant paired outcomes, such as July yes/September no versus July no/September yes. Here both discordant cells are zero.
The correct conclusion is therefore descriptive:
The strict matched Copilot financial sample contains no observed Reddit citation transitions in either direction.
That is very different from ChatGPT, where the matched financial panel produced 52 Reddit losses and 5 gains, or Perplexity, where it produced 8 losses and 0 gains.
Copilot Still Produced a Large Financial Citation Market
Questions This Section Answers
- Could the Reddit zero simply reflect a Copilot sample with almost no citations?
- How large was the underlying Copilot financial source market?
- Which publishers dominated instead?
The Reddit non-detection did not occur in a source-poor corpus.
The related Microsoft Copilot financial source study contains:
| Three-month Copilot financial measure | Count |
|---|---|
| Raw July-September observations | 2,600 |
| Explicit extraction failures excluded | 14 |
| Eligible deduplicated responses | 2,379 |
| Captured citation entries before public filtering | 7,747 |
| Public-facing citation events | 7,042 |
| Registrable cited domains | 767 |
| Domain-response appearances | 6,427 |
| Technical/navigation entries excluded | 705 |
Copilot cited a broad set of financial and editorial sources.
The leading domains were:
| Rank | Domain | Response citation coverage |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | nerdwallet.com | 23.33% |
| 2 | forbes.com | 21.77% |
| 3 | bankrate.com | 20.85% |
| 4 | cnbc.com | 20.13% |
| 5 | usnews.com | 14.80% |
| 6 | wallethub.com | 9.63% |
| 7 | wsj.com | 6.01% |
| 8 | money.com | 5.59% |
| 9 | clearvaluelending.com | 4.96% |
| 10 | lendedu.com | 4.88% |
Reddit does not appear in the published Top 100.
The #100 domain, fintrackier.com, appeared in seven responses, or 0.29% of the eligible three-month Copilot financial sample.
This makes the non-detection commercially meaningful even without claiming universal absence. Copilot was clearly citing financial sources. Reddit simply was not a material visible source in this captured financial citation market.

Copilot's Citation Capture Requires Extra Infrastructure Filtering
Questions This Section Answers
- Why does Microsoft Copilot require special source-cleaning attention?
- How many technical citation entries were excluded?
- Could infrastructure capture affect Reddit interpretation?
The Copilot financial corpus contained a larger visible technical/navigation layer than several other platform slices.
The public source ranking excludes 705 captured entries that pointed to navigation or infrastructure rather than substantive editorial sources:
| Excluded host | Citation entries |
|---|---|
| bing.com | 451 |
| bing.net | 237 |
| bingapis.com | 14 |
| openstreetmap.org | 3 |
| Total | 705 |
Those 705 entries represent about 9.1% of the 7,747 captured citation entries before public filtering.
Microsoft documents that Copilot and Copilot Chat can generate web search queries that are sent to the Bing search service to ground responses in web information. Microsoft also documents surface differences in how search-query citations are exposed to users.
That architecture is relevant because citation capture can include utility links, search interfaces, thumbnails, maps or other infrastructure that should not be interpreted as publisher authority.
The 705-entry infrastructure exclusion does not create the Reddit zero. The public publisher layer still contains 7,042 citation events across 767 registrable domains.
But it is one reason this article avoids universal claims from a zero result. Copilot's source surface and capture mechanics require platform-specific validation.
Reddit's Copilot Pattern Is Completely Different From ChatGPT and Perplexity
Questions This Section Answers
- Which platforms showed measurable Reddit declines in finance?
- How does Copilot differ from the other five tracked platform families?
- Why is a blended Reddit KPI misleading?
The parent financial Reddit study shows six very different platform patterns.
| Platform | July Reddit event share | September Reddit event share | Relative change | Matched losses | Matched gains |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | 9.96% | 2.93% | -70.6% | 52 | 5 |
| Perplexity | 4.46% | 1.02% | -77.2% | 8 | 0 |
| Google AI Mode | 3.89% | 2.43% | -37.6% | 50 | 16 |
| Google AI Overviews | 3.87% | about 2.9% | about -25% | 40 | 23 |
| Gemini | 1.41% | 0.88% | -37.6% | 1 | 2 |
| Microsoft Copilot | 0.00% | 0.00% | N/A | 0 | 0 |
Copilot is the only tracked financial platform family in this endpoint comparison with no captured Reddit citation events at either endpoint.
That makes a blended "Reddit share of AI citations" metric particularly misleading.
The all-platform financial panel can show a substantial Reddit decline while one platform contributes no visible Reddit baseline at all.
For brands, the implication is simple: source visibility must be analyzed separately by AI surface.

Broad Copilot Research Also Shows a Different Source Hierarchy
Questions This Section Answers
- Does independent broad-query research show Reddit leading Microsoft Copilot?
- How does the broad Copilot source market differ from ChatGPT or Gemini?
- Does that validate a universal Reddit zero?
Ahrefs' September 2026 Microsoft Copilot citation study analyzes more than 3 million U.S. queries spanning all topics.
Its leading sources are Amazon at 16.8% mention share and Walmart at 12.6%, followed by Wikipedia and other broad-web sources.
Reddit does not appear in Ahrefs' published September Copilot Top 50.
That is notable because Ahrefs' September studies place Reddit at or near the top of several other AI platforms. Reddit ranks #1 in its ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity studies and #2 in Google AI Overviews.
The Copilot difference is directionally consistent with the LLM Authority Index financial panel.
It still does not prove universal absence. Ahrefs uses a different query universe, a different source metric and a different collection pipeline.

Tinuiti Has Also Observed Low Social Citation Share in Microsoft Copilot
Tinuiti's Q1 2026 AI Citation Trends Report tracked seven AI platforms and features across nine commercial categories.
Tinuiti described Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini and Meta AI as platforms with very low social media share of citations in its January 2026 data.
That finding comes from an earlier period and different categories, so it should not be treated as a numeric benchmark for this July-September financial article.
It is relevant because it independently demonstrates that low social-source representation in Copilot has been observed outside the LLM Authority Index corpus.
Tinuiti's Q3 2026 report continues to emphasize substantial platform-level differences in source behavior across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.

Why Zero Does Not Mean "Copilot Never Cites Reddit"
Questions This Section Answers
- Can this study prove that Microsoft Copilot never cites Reddit?
- What are the plausible reasons a zero can appear?
- How should a brand operationalize a zero result?
No.
This study proves only that no Reddit citations were detected under the frozen eligibility, platform, category, matching and source-cleaning rules at the July and September financial endpoints.
Several factors prevent a broader claim.
Product surface
Microsoft Copilot exists across multiple surfaces, including Copilot Chat, Windows, Edge, Bing and Microsoft 365 experiences. Citation presentation can differ by surface.
Web-search configuration
Microsoft documents that web search can be enabled or disabled in eligible Copilot environments, and that generated search queries are sent to Bing when web grounding is used.
Citation display differences
Microsoft documents that web search query citations are available in Copilot Chat but not in the Copilot pane inside Microsoft 365 apps such as Word or PowerPoint.
Geography and account state
Web grounding and source presentation can vary with geography, account state, licensing and rollout.
Collection mechanics
A tracking system can only measure the citations exposed on the surface it captures.
Query population
These are high-stakes financial prompts, not a representative sample of every question users ask Copilot.
The operational takeaway is not "ignore Reddit because Copilot never uses it."
It is:
Do not count on Reddit as a directly visible Copilot financial citation channel unless your own prompt set demonstrates that it is appearing.
What This Means for Financial Brands and CMOs
Questions This Section Answers
- Should a financial brand prioritize Reddit specifically for Copilot citation visibility?
- Which sources appear more important in this platform?
- What should teams measure next?
1. Do not assume a Reddit strategy transfers from ChatGPT or Google to Copilot
Reddit was materially visible in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews during the same financial research period.
It was not detected at the Copilot endpoints.
2. Build around the sources Copilot actually cites in finance
NerdWallet, Forbes, Bankrate, CNBC, U.S. News, WalletHub, The Wall Street Journal and Money.com all have much stronger measured Copilot financial visibility.
3. Validate Reddit with your own commercial prompts before allocating effort for Copilot
If Reddit matters to reputation or customer research, it can still be strategically valuable. But direct Copilot citation visibility should be measured rather than assumed.
4. Separate Copilot source visibility from Bing SEO visibility
Copilot uses Bing grounding infrastructure, but a Bing search presence and a Copilot citation are not the same outcome.
5. Track citation, recommendation and sentiment separately
A company can be mentioned or recommended without Reddit appearing as a citation. A zero Reddit citation rate does not imply zero Reddit influence in training, latent model knowledge or other retrieval pathways.

What This Means for Financial Publishers
The Copilot financial source market is large and concentrated enough to support meaningful publisher benchmarking.
The Top 10 account for approximately 48.8% of domain-response appearances, and the Top 100 account for approximately 81.3%.
For publishers, useful Copilot metrics include:
- response citation coverage by financial vertical;
- citation events after infrastructure filtering;
- monthly rank persistence;
- URL-level citation recurrence;
- category lift versus Copilot overall;
- cross-platform source coverage;
- matched prompt persistence; and
- whether publisher citation visibility changes alongside brand recommendation visibility.
The Reddit non-detection does not mean community content is irrelevant to consumers. It means that, in this captured Copilot financial source market, editorial publishers and financial information sites dominated the visible citation layer.
How This Study Relates to the Parent Financial Reddit Study
The parent Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending study found that Reddit's balanced all-platform citation-event share fell from 4.26% to 2.29%, a 46.2% decline.
That blended result does not describe Copilot.
Copilot contributed 0.00% Reddit event share at both endpoints in the balanced financial panel.
The all-platform matched study found 151 Reddit losses and 46 gains. Copilot contributed 0 losses and 0 gains across its 177 matched scenarios.
This is why platform-specific child studies matter.
The parent result accurately describes the combined financial AI environment, while the Copilot child study reveals that one platform can have no measurable direct Reddit baseline at all.
How This Study Is Different
This article narrows the broader financial Reddit research to one platform, one high-stakes decision family and one three-month research window.
It combines:
- a 2,379-response Microsoft Copilot Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending source slice;
- a balanced 13-vertical July-to-September endpoint;
- a 177-scenario strict matched prompt-plus-Copilot test;
- both citation-event share and response citation coverage;
- a cleaned three-month source market containing 7,042 public-facing citation events and 767 registrable domains;
- explicit treatment of 705 Bing, API, map and navigation infrastructure entries;
- comparison with broad September Copilot citation research from Ahrefs;
- comparison with Tinuiti's cross-platform social citation research; and
- Microsoft documentation on Bing-grounded Copilot web search.
The narrow research question is:
Was Reddit a stable, directly visible citation source in Microsoft Copilot for consequential credit, debt, banking and lending consumer decisions from July through September 2026?
In this frozen dataset, Reddit was not measurable at the July or September endpoint.

Why AI Citation Studies Can Disagree
Questions This Section Answers
- Why can a zero appear in one Copilot study while another tool might eventually find Reddit citations?
- Which methodological choices matter most for Copilot?
- What should marketers compare before using a benchmark?
Query population
High-stakes financial prompts are not representative of all Copilot use cases.
Product surface
Copilot Chat, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Bing and other Copilot experiences can expose sources differently.
Web grounding
Web search can depend on product and administrative settings.
Citation capture
Technical Bing links, thumbnails, API endpoints and map infrastructure can appear in captured citation streams and must be separated from substantive publisher citations.
Denominator
Response citation coverage and citation-event share answer different questions. A Top 50 mention-share study uses another denominator again.
Time period
This article uses July through September 2026. Historical or future Copilot source behavior can differ.
Missing versus zero
A measured zero is different from a missing dataset. The balanced Copilot endpoint contains eligible observations at both endpoints, but no captured Reddit citations.
Prompt matching
The strict paired test contains only scenarios with eligible observations at both endpoints under the project's matching rules.
Technical-source filtering
The published Copilot financial source market excludes 705 technical or navigational entries.
Prompt weighting
The panel is not weighted by search volume, credit-card applications, loan volume, account openings, revenue, media spend or conversion probability.
The correct interpretation is therefore conditional:
Reddit was not detected in this measured Copilot financial endpoint panel.
That is a strong empirical statement about the corpus. It is not a universal product claim.
Verticals Covered
The full Microsoft Copilot Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending source study contains 16 source labels:
- Auto Refinance Loans
- Bad Credit Loans
- Best Banks
- Certificates of Deposits
- Credit Cards
- Credit Cards for Building Credit
- Credit Monitoring
- Credit Repair
- Debt Relief & Consolidation
- Home Equity Loans
- Money Market Accounts
- Personal Loans and Online Lenders
- Savings Account
- Student Loan Refinance
- Student Loans
- Tax Relief
The balanced July-to-September endpoint uses 13 verticals represented at both endpoints.
The source labels without July data are:
- Home Equity Loans
- Savings Account
- Student Loan Refinance
Those missing July source sets are not converted into measured zeros.

Methodology
Source archive
This study uses the frozen July-September 2026 LLM Authority Index High-Stakes Consumer Decisions corpus underlying the Microsoft Copilot financial source study and the parent financial Reddit analysis.
Raw and screened Copilot financial sample
The archived Microsoft Copilot financial slice contains:
- 2,600 raw observations
- 14 explicit extraction failures
- 2,379 eligible deduplicated responses
- 7,747 captured citation entries before public infrastructure filtering
- 7,042 public-facing citation events
- 767 registrable cited domains
- 6,427 domain-response appearances
Platform filter
Only observations assigned to the Microsoft Copilot platform family are included.
Category filter
Observations are included when their source membership belongs to the Credit, Debt, Banking and Lending family.
Extraction failures
The 14 observations explicitly marked as extraction failures are excluded from eligible response denominators rather than treated as zero-citation answers.
Exact analytical repeat handling
Exact analytical repeats are controlled using the project's documented repeat rules so duplicate records do not inflate source coverage.
Prompt normalization
Matched prompt text is normalized using Unicode NFKC normalization, case folding, whitespace collapse and trimming.
Domain normalization
Citation URLs are parsed to hostname, lowercased, stripped of leading www where applicable and consolidated to registrable domain using Public Suffix List logic.
Reddit identification
Reddit is identified at the registrable-domain level as reddit.com.
Public technical exclusions
The Copilot financial public ranking excludes:
- 451 bing.com entries
- 237 bing.net entries
- 14 bingapis.com entries
- 3 openstreetmap.org entries
Total excluded: 705.
Citation-event share
Reddit citation-event share = Reddit citation events / all eligible public citation events
Response citation coverage
Reddit response citation coverage = eligible responses citing Reddit at least once / all eligible responses
Balanced endpoint
The July-to-September endpoint uses the 13 financial verticals represented in both endpoint months.
Reddit event share and response coverage are 0.00% at both endpoints.
Matched prompt-plus-platform test
The strict matched Copilot panel contains 177 scenarios.
The contingency table is:
- both July and September cite Reddit: 0
- July cites Reddit, September does not: 0
- July does not cite Reddit, September cites Reddit: 0
- neither month cites Reddit: 177
Because there are no discordant pairs, a McNemar loss-versus-gain significance test is not applicable.
Three-month source-market context
The published Microsoft Copilot financial Top 100 does not include Reddit.
The #100 domain appears in seven responses at 0.29% response citation coverage.
This article does not convert absence from the Top 100 into an unsupported exact three-month Reddit count.

Limitations
- The study covers one frozen three-month period and should not be treated as a permanent Microsoft Copilot rule.
- The prompt panel is designed for research comparability and commercial relevance, not search-volume-weighted market share.
- Visible citation does not prove recommendation causality, hidden retrieval influence or training-data use.
- A zero captured citation rate can reflect platform behavior, product-surface behavior, grounding configuration or collection mechanics.
- Microsoft Copilot has multiple product surfaces with different citation and grounding experiences.
- The balanced endpoint excludes three financial labels without July source data.
- The strict matched analysis has no discordant Reddit pairs, so there is no loss-versus-gain significance test to interpret.
- The published three-month source ranking establishes that Reddit was outside the Top 100, but this child article does not infer an exact three-month Reddit count that is not present in the frozen published result table.
- Domain-level aggregation hides page-level source differences.
- Technical-source cleanup is unusually important in the Copilot slice because 705 infrastructure/navigation entries were excluded.
- External studies use different query populations, dates, markets, product surfaces, metrics and collection systems.
- Copilot behavior can change after the September 2026 endpoint.
