Evidence and Source Layer

Questions This Section Answers

  • What types of prompt-level evidence are retained in the benchmark observations?
  • Can source presence be treated as proof that a citation caused a recommendation?

The benchmark is built from prompt-level observations that retain the query, AI/search surface, answer, brand outcome, recommendation placement, sentiment, and where exposed, citations or attributable evidence sources. Source presence is evidence about the information environment. It is not automatically proof that the source caused the recommendation.

Want the full Authority Index

The paid deep-dive adds competitor threat profiles, the gap matrix, citation failure map, platform-by-platform recovery roadmap, and client-specific economic modeling.

Scope Boundaries

This public benchmark does not measure market share, attributable sales, every possible AI response, organic-search ranking, social mention volume, private or sponsored channels, or causality from a metric movement alone. Differences between months reflect shifts in AI-generated recommendations across the measured public surfaces and are not attributable to any single cause without further analysis. The benchmark cannot distinguish platform behavior from measurement effects.

Top 10 Cited Domains

Questions This Section Answers

  • Which domains were cited most often across AI platform responses?
  • Did any credit card processing brand's own domain appear among the top 10 cited sources?

Across all AI platform responses in this measurement period, 5,596 citations were observed across 1,522 unique domains. The top 10 most-cited domains are shown below.
