Qualified surface breadth counts the canonical AI/search surface families with at least one qualified observation: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews, and AI Mode. All six families were represented in both May 2026 and October 2026. July 2026, August 2026, and September 2026 also recorded breadth of six.

Research Scope and Qualification
Questions This Section Answers
- How many prompt observations qualified for the October 2026 public benchmark?
- What is the difference between the raw collection and the qualified public denominator?
The public benchmark is narrower than the raw collection universe by design. The funnel below shows how the October 2026 public denominator was reached, alongside the May 2026 baseline for context.
Research stage | May 2026 | October 2026 | What it represents |
|---|---|---|---|
Source prompt-surface observations | 1,591 | 800 | Total prompts sent to AI surfaces |
Unique questions | 1,591 | 569 | Distinct questions asked |
Brand / competitor mentions | 1,591 | 800 | Prompts mentioning a tracked brand |
Relevant observations | 1,591 | 750 | Prompts relevant to the benchmark |
Irrelevant observations | 0 | 50 | Prompts excluded as irrelevant |
Qualified benchmark observations | 1,591 | 673 | Public denominator after qualification |
Brand-level percentages use the qualified observations as the public denominator, not the raw collection. Link AI Visibility Market Discovery Methodology.

How to Read the Standings
- Presence rate: share of qualified observations where the brand appears in the AI answer, whether recommended, compared, or merely mentioned.
- Valid recommendation coverage: share of qualified observations where the brand appears in a recommendation shortlist, the benchmark's primary metric.
- Top-three rate: share of qualified observations where the brand appears in the first three recommendation positions.
- Rank-one rate: share of qualified observations where the brand is the single first recommendation.
- Net sentiment: positive mentions minus negative mentions as a share of all sentiment-bearing mentions.

Recommendation Placement Snapshot
Questions This Section Answers
- How do top-three and rank-one rates differentiate the leading exchanges beyond raw coverage?
- Where did brands with similar coverage momentum diverge in first-position recommendations?
Coverage alone does not show how prominently a brand is recommended. The table below shows top-three and rank-one rates for the leading brands.
Brand | October 2026 top-three rate | October 2026 rank-one rate | May 2026 top-three rate | May 2026 rank-one rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Kraken | 72.7% | 32.5% | 30.9% | 15.0% |
Binance | 42.8% | 9.8% | 17.0% | 5.1% |
Crypto.com | 18.3% | 0.7% | 6.9% | 0.6% |
Kraken led on both top-three and rank-one placement in October 2026, ahead of the next brand on each measure. Close coverage can still hide very different first-position rates: Crypto.com and Binance carried similar coverage momentum across the series, but their October 2026 rank-one rates diverged by 9.1 points even as their coverage gap narrowed.
Buyer-Intent Distribution
Questions This Section Answers
- Which buyer-intent classes held qualified observations in October 2026?
- What happened to the pricing and comparison classes compared with May 2026?
In October 2026, all qualified observations fell into the discovery and consideration class. The comparison and pricing and cost classes contained no qualified observations, down from May 2026 when those classes held meaningful counts.
Buyer-intent class | May 2026 | October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
Brand Recommendation | 1,069 | 673 |
Pricing & Value | 98 | 0 |
Multi-Brand Comparison | 424 | 0 |
Total qualified observations | 1,591 | 673 |
The current public series measures only the brand recommendation class of discovery for October 2026 and does not yet contain qualified observations in the pricing and comparison classes.

Evidence and Source Layer
Questions This Section Answers
- What does source presence in the benchmark show about the information environment behind AI recommendations?
- How should readers interpret citations relative to the recommendation outcomes?
The benchmark is built from prompt-level observations that retain the query, AI/search surface, answer, brand outcome, recommendation placement, sentiment, and where exposed, citations or attributable evidence sources. Source presence is evidence about the information environment, not automatically proof that the source caused the recommendation.
